Gubler, Adolf
Let there be thanksgiving for the life of Adolf Gubler, 83, who passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024, in Kitchener, Ontario at Freeport Grand River Campus, Palliative Care Unit. Born on April 9, 1941, his life was marked by quiet dignity, sharp intellect, quick wit and a steadfast moral compass. He maintained a lifelong passion for knowledge and was an eloquent speaker, remembered for his integrity, patience, photographic memory and generosity.
Adolf, a steward of the law for more than 50 years, his career as a lawyer in Kitchener-Waterloo earned respect and admiration from his colleagues and clients alike. His scholarly quest began at Eastwood Collegiate, followed by higher education at the University of Waterloo (BA, MA) and the University of Western Ontario (LLB). He was extremely proud of his German Heritage and was a master of the German language.
A man of faith, Adolf was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, where he was baptized, confirmed, and married on August 10, 1979. Outside of the law profession, he enjoyed immersing himself in literature, music, delving into the depths of history, storytelling, and fishing at Manitoulin Island, activities that reflected his deep appreciation for nature and all of God’s creatures especially Annie and Bailley (canine companions). As a long-term member of Concordia Club, German Canadian Hunting and Fishing Club and Oktoberfest Lions Club as well as past president of CKCR radio, his roots in the community run deep.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved spouse, Carol Ann (Mantell) Gubler; in-laws Karen (Jim) Kunda, Heidi (Ben) de Amorim, Katie (Dan) Ritz, Annette (Barry) Staley, Margaret (Don) Bosse, Wilfred (Jean), Henry and Andy (Chris) Atamaniuk, David (Ellie) Gubler, Debbie (Doug) Bardon, Doris (David) Martin, Dr. Edith (John, deceased) McCreadie, Ralph (Sue) Gubler, Karen (Brad) Emke, Crystal Heintze, Marina (Russell) Burgess, Rosie (Peter) Olsen, Barbara (Jim) Mansfield, Robert (Darlene) Gubler, Andy (Bonnie) Gubler, Sandra (Bertrand) Kunda Gauje, and Jeffrey (Chasity) Kunda, along with many great-nieces and nephews.
Adolf’s departure signifies the end of a generational lineage. Preceding him in death were his parents, Mathilde and Jakob Gubler, brothers Berhardt, Edward, Julius, August, Ludwig (Clara), Andreas (Hildegard), Arnold (Edith), Willi (Barb), sister Erna (Bill) Atamaniuk, nephew Wilfred Gubler, mother and father-in-law, Frank and Agnes Mantell and sister-in-law Diane Plemel.
Adolf had on-going health issues for many years, taking it all in stride without complaint. He soldiered on and accepted whatever came his way with dignity and greeted each new day with a zest for life. On August 10th, Adolf suffered a fall that necessitated thoracic instrumented fusion surgical repair. After successful surgery, numerous complications arose. After a brief stay at home continuing issues culminated that necessitated his transfer to Freeport Grand River Campus Palliative Care on October 10th where he was treated with dignity, profound kindness and love for which Adolf’s family is forever grateful. His final hours were peaceful with family by his side.
Many thanks to Dr. Martin Gaejewski, Dr. Colin Yee, Dr. Mark Benaroia, Dr. Arif Ismaeli, Dr. Alex Trussler, the entire Palliative Care Team but in particular to the nurses who provided the best of care and support during his final days.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests that contributions be directed to the Freeport Grand River Campus Palliative Care Unit, SMGH, or GRH in Adolf’s memory-sanctuaries of healing and peace where compassion and care endure. Please consider leaving your thoughts and messages on the «Memory Wall» on the Henry Walser website. This would be a permanent and lasting treasure to the family. Adolf’s life and legacy will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
Adolf’s family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener (519) 749-8467.
