Adele Jones, beloved mother, sister and friend passed away suddenly on Monday, May 8, 2023, at the age of 68 years.
Adele was born in Vegreville, AB, Canada, on July 28, 1954. She lived all over Alberta, including Sylvan Lake, Red Deer, Edmonton, Cochrane, before finally settling in Calgary.
Adele graduated high school from V.C.H.S in 1972 and then left for the big city of Edmonton to eventually pursue Court Reporting at NAIT. She was an active member of Al-Anon and volunteered with the Helpline in her free time. Adele accomplished much through her life and was particularly proud of her daughter, Meg.
She loved her independence and enjoyed travelling, whether for work or pleasure. She also enjoyed attending local craft shows, singing, animals, drawing, music, and being surrounded by friends and laughter. She collected art and sculpture, especially loving northern artists.
Adele’s most memorable vacations were when she went to Israel, Scotland, Newfoundland and Rome. She also loved working in the North and surrounded herself with the lifelong friends she made there.
She will be most remembered for marvelling in the creativity of others, laughing with abandon, and a constant quest for reflection and growth.
Adele is survived by her daughter, Megan Jones of Calgary, AB. She is also survived by her sisters, Grace (Otto) Schultz of Edmonton, AB, Beth Chilibecki of Vegreville, AB, Peach Myers of Grimshaw, AB, and Maureen McMahon of Las Vegas, NV, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Adele was predeceased by parents, Pat Smolyk (nee McMahon) and Sam Smolyk; stepmother, Rita Smolyk; and brother Chris Smolyk.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6), on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
