Ada Jean McCarthy, fondly called “Jeannie”, transitioned peacefully while her husband Ed McCarthy held her hand and told her the story of how they had danced together on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii. It was a beautiful, loving send-off after 66 years of marriage. Ada Jean blessed this world for 91 years with kindness, generosity and compassion. Besides her husband, she is survived and lovingly remembered by her three children, Kim McCarthy, Richard McCarthy (Laurie McCarthy) and Brenda McCarthy (Jeff Tiessen). She was a loving and playful grandmother to Riley Lewicki, Mitchell Tiessen, Sarah McCarthy, Emily Tiessen and Michaela McCarthy.
Rambling through the woods to pick berries, carpet bowling, baking, Chinese checkers, dancing and feeding the birds and chipmunks were all activities that brought her happiness. She was known for taking spiders back outside so they could be with their friends. Countless people enjoyed the gift of her friendship. Ada Jean served many generations of women as the owner of a ladies wear store in Geraldton, Ontario. Retiring at the age of 60 allowed several years of travel and fun. In 2016, Ada Jean and Ed moved from Geraldton to Stratford Ontario to live with their oldest daughter, Kim.
Predeceased by her parents, Robert and Mary (Mamie) Frost and only sister, Roberta Wood.
A private family celebration of life to honour Ada Jean will be held at a later date in her hometown of Geraldton, Ontario.
