It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Normand Cormier, 76, of Moncton on April 9th, 2023, at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre.
Born in Saint-Antoine, NB, he was the son of the late Zoel and Bertha (Caissie) Cormier. He attended school for 10 years and later met his sweetheart Phyllis Belliveau of Saint-Paul, NB. They married in 1971, had two children and lived on Charles Lutes Rd. since 1976.
For 50 years, he worked as a painter, mostly for his brother “Lindou” at Cocagne Painting Ltd. And said it was the happiest trade. He was obsessed with cars and owned 41 in his lifetime, his favorite being his MGB, 1974 yellow Corvette and Jaguar XL8 which drove the band U2. He even talked about buying more after he gave in his licence a year ago.
Normand was Catholic, read the Bible and prayed to God in his own way. He and Phyllis loved to go on drives, visit family, have friends over and go to dances when he was not working on their house or cars. They also liked fishing, skiing, wildlife, nature and dogs Jag and Charlie. After Phyllis passed in 2017, he managed to live alone, socialize, and continue going to dances weekly, his favorite being the one on Vail St. which he last attended on November 27.
Normand had a good life, was only ill once, took no medication, married for 46 years, and had a nice family who loved him and treated him well. There was not a day that he did not talk about Phyllis who served him like a King. He will be dearly missed by daughter Renee (Mario), son Julien, grandchildren Hailey and Dominic, sister Georgette, brothers Roger (Jeanne), Guy, Ernest (Bernadette), LeoPaul, and friends. He was predeceased by wife Phyllis, brothers Maurice and infant Ernest.
Special thanks to Home Access Care for the help at home and friends of la Villa for food since June, staff at Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont 3C, 4C, 3F and 3A since December 5 and family and friends for their visit. A big thank you to Normand and Phyllis for all those magical times when we were kids and all that you have done for us during our life. Rest in peace, go find Phyllis and see you both in heaven someday.
Visitation will be held at Passage-Chartersville Funeral Cooperative (363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB, E1A 1G1, 506-857-1901) on Monday, April 17th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm and on Tuesday, April 18th, from 10 to 11 am. Funeral service will follow in the Passage-Chartersville chapel at 11 am. Interment will be held in the Saint-Antoine parish cemetery in the spring.
Donations if desired can be made to the Alzheimer’s society or to his grandchildren or do some act of kindness for a senior who lives alone.
The family invites you to sign a book of condolences at: www.funerairepassagefuneral.ca.
