Mom/Nan passed very peacefully away with her loving family by her side after living a long and happy life in her own home, which is where she wanted to be and she certainly got her wish. She was always happy to see her door open and visitors coming in. The daily visits from her nephews were something she looked forward to. She was always happy to see her family coming and you can be sure there would always be a laugh. She loved the heat, especially from her wood stove. She was smart, whitty and spoke her mind right up to the end. She was an avid Boston Bruins fan and loved it when the Bruins and the Leafs played, mostly so she could torment Ben when the Leafs lost. She was a longtime member of Yesterday’s Youth Club. The game of 120’s, played around the kitchen table, with old cards because she thought that new cards were no good, will never be the same without her. She loved to eat (everything) and loved it when people brought her food. She always said “she would go to bed hungry if she didn’t have potatoes at least once a day”. Jiggs dinner on Sunday was a ritual, whether it was cooked in her house or brought to her from across the road by her family, “meals on wheels”. A big party and celebration of her 100th birthday was held in her honour in January, where she had a great time with family and friends. Her biggest birthday gift she received was COVID. She was an icon and the oldest resident of the Gaskiers. She was a fixture sitting in her rocking chair looking out the window. We wonder who will take over neighbourhood watch now. She will be missed by many who knew and loved her.
