In Celebration of
Subramaniam Saravanamuttu
September 2, 1939 –
March 16, 2023
Mr. Subramaniam Saravanamuttu died peacefully aged 83 and surrounded by loved ones on the 16th of March at his home in Mount Hope, Ontario.
Born in Alvai, Sri Lanka, Saravanamuttu was the beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. V. Subramaniam and dear son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. T. Amirthalingam. He was the devoted husband of the late Kamalasundari (Radha). Saravanamuttu was the cherished brother of the late Tharmalingam, Manickam (late Vaithilingam), Rajalingam (Maheswari), Selvarathnam (Murugaiah), Jeevarathnam (late Ganeswaran), Pakialuxmy (Sivapragasam) and Maheswari (Jeyadevan). He was the affectionate brother-in-law of Logasundari (Manoranjithan) and Manickavasagar (Susila).
Saravanamuttu was the much treasured and very deeply loved Dadda of Kalaichelvi and Nagulan, father-in-law to Ignacio and Natasha, Appappaa to Yohan, Sami, and Maya, and Paata to Radha Maria and Rafael Ganesh. He will be missed by many loving nieces and nephews, cousins and family members and friends both in Canada and abroad.
After qualifying as a chartered accountant, Saravanamuttu met his wife of more than 51 years at their workplace in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He visited several countries for work, always enriching and broadening the world of his two children through stories of his travels, colourful postcards, letters and lovingly chosen books and gifts. Later, they moved as a family and lived in different parts of the world including Port Moresby, Montreal, and Mount Hope.
Saravanamuttu combined his interest in reading, current affairs and political history with a passion for debate and discussion. He centred his working life on aspiring and creating opportunities against all odds for his family, and shared with his children an uncompromising belief in a strong work ethic and higher education. Saravanamuttu’s later years were filled with the birth and lives of his five grandchildren; he relished, remembered, and celebrated each of their achievements big or small, from the academic successes of Yohan, poetry of Radha Maria, sportsmanship of Sami, cricketing feats of Maya to Rafi’s interest in alphabets from around the world. He enjoyed tending to his backyard garden, competing with his wife for the best harvest of vegetables.
Saravanamuttu and his recently deceased wife, Radha, leave a legacy of great joy, perseverance, and purpose. Despite our devastating loss, our family remains deeply grateful for their lives, will treasure our memories of them and continue to be guided by their principles and values.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Bay Gardens Funeral Home. Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 1010 Botanical Drive, Burlington, on Monday, 27th of March, 2023, from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that you please consider making a donation to the Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health or a charity of choice.
