David’s Obituary
Trotman, David John William “Dave” – 82, of Cambridge, Kings County, retired Captain of the RCAF, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 19th, 2022 at approximately 7:45 pm in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kingston, Ontario, he was the son of the late David Charles William Trotman and his wife, the former Bridget (Delia) McNicholas. Dave loved baseball, curling, bowling, golf, and model railroading. He was first employed as a pilot boat operator for the Kingston Ontario Pilot Boat Service. When that job went to the USA at Cape Vincent, NY in 1963, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). He graduated as an Instrument Technician in 1964 and was employed at RCAF Station Uplands, Ottawa, ON. He re-mustered to aircrew in 1965 and became a pilot with the RCAF/CAF for over 30 years. He flew F86’s at the Sabre Transition Unit at RCAF Station Chatham, NB, CF 104 Starfighters, aka “The Widow Maker”, with 430 squadron (Sqn) in Zweibrucken, West Germany, Dakotas with 429 Composite Sqn in Winning, Manitoba, Commander FMC’s Dakota Flight in St. Hubert, Quebec (CFB Montreal). When that flight was disbanded in 1974, he was posted to a staff job at 10 Tactical Air Group Head Quarters (10TAG HQ) at St. Huberts. From there he flew the CP 107 Argus and the CP 140 Aurora with 405 Maritime Patrol Sqn, the CP 140 Aurora with 404 Maritime Patrol and Training Sqn at CFB Greenwood. He retired from flying and was posted to the Aurora Software Development Unit/14 Software Engineering SQN in 1987, where he served until his retirement from the military in 1995. He served as a director of the Greenwood Credit Union 1988-1994, a member of various committees with the Valley Credit Union 1994-2012, a director of the Paragon Golf and Country Club 1996-2002 and was an active member of the Annapolis Valley Model Railway Club 1997-2010. Surviving are his wife, the former Nora Jean Vair; daughter Carissa Bartlett (Jacob Todd); granddaughters Kayla and Ryleigh, Dieppe, NB, as well as cousins on his mother’s side living in various parts throughout the globe. In keeping with Dave’s wishes, cremation will take place. Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, January 7, 2023 in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street 1-855-825-3448. Rev. Leon Langille officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the medical staff at Valley Regional Hospital, Surgical Unit. Their compassion and understanding were beyond anything we could ever have hoped for.
