December 28 2024 résidant dans la province Ontario pour le détail des funérailles.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Rita Frances (Mickey) Belton, a remarkable woman who graced this world for 90 years. She was the daughter of Victor and Rita Grady (deceased) and the devoted wife of Ron Belton, her one true love, her north star, with whom she shared an incredible 68 years of marriage before dad passed away in 2023.
Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, challenges faced with grace, and a boatload of cherished memories. Mom gave precious life to six children, Lynn Adams (Marc), Liz Wallis, Chris Belton (Sherry), Colleen Clynch (Kevin), Susan Belton, and John Belton (Penny), who in turn spawned a pack of fifteen amazing grandchildren and nine rambunctious great grandchildren.
As a proud mother of six, we admired her for the sacrifices she made to raise us. She spent years raising babies in remote locations in northern Ontario, moving every year or two, adding babies along the way as dads work took him across the province before landing in Oshawa in 1969.
Her zest for life was happily shared with her brothers and sisters, Patricia Conlin (deceased), Sheila Doris (Jack), Jimmy Grady (Susan), Michael Grady (deceased) Colleen Reid (Frank) Bonnie Brousseau (Wayne) and Ann Grady. She will be especially missed by her sister and best friend Sheila, who still recounts their girls’ weekend escapes to the Chelsea Inn in Toronto, where what happened at the Chelsea stayed at the Chelsea.
A determined golfer she found joy on the course and her love of walking ensured she was never far from her next adventure or conversation with a friendly stranger.
Mom believed in giving back. She taught others to find their voice as an instructor for the Christopher Leadership course. She spent 16 years volunteering at the Palliative Care Unit at St. Michael’s Hospital, offering comfort and compassion to those in their final days, to say nothing of the days and hours helping her grandkids.
Mom leaves behind a legacy of kindness, connection and resilience that will forever inspire those who knew her. We take solace in knowing she lived life so surrounded by love.
Her journey in this last year was eased by the compassionate care of the nurses and personal support workers at Bloom Retirement Residence in Oshawa, and finally by Dr. Selby and the incredible team at Sunnybrook Palliative Care unit, for which our family remains deeply grateful.
In the warmth of the spring we will gather for a communal mass, celebration of life and internment.
The family requests that all those who wish to honour mom’s memory through donations, kindly support Hospice Whitby Roger Anderson House (hospicewhitby.ca) or Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation (sunnybrook.ca/foundation)
Rest in peace mom, dad has been waiting with arms wide open.
