June 28, 1948 – December 8, 2024
Born in 1948 to August and Mary, she saw the world change so much. She went to a country school where the kids were pulled on sleds by a horse and that horse would always find its way home even in the worst snowstorms.
When Ilene finished high school, she went to business college in Saskatoon and met her lifelong best friend, Vance. They started their family in Calgary but returned to Naicam to raise their kids the small-town way. Ilene worked for the Naicam Co-op for many years at the store and the gas bar.
Ilene was a very active volunteer community member who worked at Thrift Store, Library, Lefse making, Fall Suppers, 4-H leader, and was also on the Credit Union Board for a few years. She was active with the Naicam seniors, especially the quilting group.
Ilene loved spending time fishing with Vance at Deschambault Lake. And when the fish weren’t biting, they watched the eagles and pelicans and enjoyed sociables with friends. They spent several winters in Yuma during their retirement years.
She always had a big garden that was the envy of many neighbours. Ilene was an avid crafter especially quilting, knitting and crocheting. Her grandchildren have so many memories of baking, fishing and definitely playing cribbage. She was a great mom and grandma, passing on her knowledge, encouragement, love and support in all our endeavours.
She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
A celebration of Ilene’s life will be held at a later date.
