William Otto Christopher (Chris) Miller passed away peacefully in the morning of Nov 29, 2024 at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre. Chris made the most of his almost 99 years, living his life to the fullest, making positive contributions, large and small, along the way. His passion for exploring the outdoors, his endless curiosity for people, engineering and law all brought him joy. Logan Lake held a particularly strong place in his heart, as did the people and his work at Blakes. There were many things that he carried a quiet pride about, volunteering to serve his country as a paratrooper in WW II was one of them. No one was a stranger for long as he would engage with people of all walks of life, with genuine interest and attention. Football wove an interesting thread through his life as the army brought him to play in the CFL’s Grey Cup game of 1942 in the self-described position of «West Sideline» and then Sunday morning touch football with Blakes colleagues provided him with lasting personal connections. The greatest love of his life was his wife, Mary Anne Miller (Currie), with whom he shared an incredible array of adventures. His children, Anne-Frances (Ganpathy Murthy), Ross, Sheila and Martha were deeply loved and cared for as were his grandchildren, Shankar and Ananth. He is also survived by his brother, Jack. Chris was a respectful, polite and thoughtful person who will be remembered for his smile, the glint in his eyes, his intellect, his love for nature, his hearty laughter and an endless capacity to eat ice cream.
Heartfelt thanks to his care team including Dr. Advani, Dr. Feiner, St Michael’s Hospital and the wonderful people at Sunnybrook Veteran’s Centre.
Currently plans are in the making for a more personal, and less traditionally formal, gathering to remember Chris on Sunday, Dec 29th, 2024. Updates will be posted here.
