We, the family of Duncan Morris MacEachern, are deeply saddened to announce his peaceful passing on Saturday, November 23, 2024, in Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck with his beloved Annie, Turner and Josie by his side.
Born December 2, 1967, in North River Bridge, he was a son of Duncan and Christina (Smith) MacEachern.
Duncan was beloved from the day he was born and had a wonderful childhood on the Meadow Road. He was athletic from the beginning and spent many hours running along the river with his childhood friends and best-friend, his brother, Dougie. He started playing minor hockey at the rink in Baddeck and continued throughout his life playing on the Cape Breton Colonels, the Memorial Maurauders, the Sydney Millionaires «Dream Team», and senior hockey with the Baddeck Extreme, Baddeck Jazz and Whycocomagh Oilers.
He started his career early by selling Christmas cards to his neighbours. He worked at the gas station in Tarbot and then at S. J. MacRae & Sons in Baddeck. He fished lobster in Little River, worked as a heavy equipment operator in construction, forestry and the oil fields in Alberta and finally as a window technician.
In 1998, Duncan and Andrea married and moved to Big Baddeck and created a life he loved there. He had wonderful friends and neighbours and spent many happy hours sitting in his garage, beside the wood stove, visiting with them and especially his best friend, Richard.
He was a volunteer with the Baddeck Fire Department, a member of St. Mark’s Masonic Lodge and coached many hockey teams over the years.
Duncan was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at an early age and lived a life that should inspire us all. He was a fighter and kept a positive attitude against challenges that would have knocked most of us down. He would say, «I am not dying with Parkinson’s, I am living with it.»
Duncan’s joy in life was Annie and Turner and his many pets. He was so happy when Turner met his love Nadia.
Duncan was stubborn, sweet, sarcastic and very loving. We will miss him forever.
In addition to his parents, Duncan is survived by his wife, Andrea (MacLean); son, Turner (Nadia Ross), Margaree Valley; sisters, Grace Ann MacDermid, North River Bridge, Murdell (Richard) MacKenzie, Halifax and Angela (Gracie) MacEachern, Sydney; and brother, Dougie MacEachern, North River Bridge. He is also survived by his MacLean family, many nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved dearly. He will be missed by his beloved companion and favorite girl, Josie and grandpuppy, Maple.
Duncan was predeceased by his beloved mother and father in-law, Katherine and Ewen MacLean and much loved brothers-in-law, Stephen MacDermid and Kevin MacLean.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held in Baddeck Valley Community Hall on Saturday, November 30th beginning at 4 p.m. A private interment will take place in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Big Baddeck at a later date.
The family would like to thank Duncan’s extensive medical team over the years, especially Dr. Genge, Dr. Jubenville, Dr. Ritter, Paulette Levin, his favourite nurse Sally and a special angel that helped us all get through some of the hardest days.
