William Boniface Hendriks of Surrey, BC passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at the age of 74. After a lengthy battle, Will died peacefully with his beloved wife, Dianne and their children by his side.
Will was born in Den Hague, Netherlands on December 30, 1948 to father, Peter Hendriks and mother Anna Hendriks. The second of six children, Will spent his first years in the Netherlands before immigrating with his family to Canada in 1950, the Hendriks eventually settled in Surrey BC. Will spent many years helping his parents in the family business, Hendriks Flower and Garden shop, where he learned the value of hard work and developed his love of gardening. Will later attended BCIT for sales and marketing, where his negotiation skills were honed, and set his path to success in the sales industry. Will enjoyed a 35-year career at Northcoast Building Products.
In the summer of ‘69, Will met his future wife at the A&W; he and Dianne May Dudley married in July 1974. They enjoyed nearly 49 years of marriage. Their daughter Sarah was born in February 1979, followed by their son Jordan born in September 1981. Family was always Will’s priority, he was a devoted dad and loved spending quality time together.
Will had a lifelong love for motorcycles; he raced motocross in his 20’s, taught his kids and grandkids to ride dirt bikes, and rode with his friends and family into his early 70’s. Will especially cherished the time spent riding dirt bikes with his son, Jordan.
Will’s true passion was the game of golf. He played his first round in the 1970’s and never stopped! Will enjoyed countless rounds at the Semiahmoo Golf & Country club, where he was a member for 36 years. Through the game, Will made lifelong friendships, and they enjoyed numerous golf trips together. Will’s ability to remember the detail of games long ago was remarkable – he could recall the course name, hole, score and even the direction of the wind from a game played decades prior! Will was proud to score a hole-in-1; not once, but 3 times!
One of Will’s favourite pastimes was travelling…from family camping to cruising with friends to taking his parents on trips, Will’s love of adventure took him all around the world. During retirement, Will and Dianne travelled to South America, Asia, Australia, and throughout North America. Will was always curious and eager to learn about history, to see new places and experience different cultures.
Will is survived by his beloved partner, friend, and caretaker, his wife Dianne. Will/Willy/Dad/Papa leaves behind three adoring grandchildren: Paxton Friesen, Emelia Friesen, and Caden Laviolette. Two children: Sarah Laviolette (Brad Laviolette) and Jordan Hendriks (Robyn Hendriks). Five siblings: Paul Hendriks (Vivian Hendriks), Bernie Hendriks (Cliff Johnston), Aggi Hendriks (Steve Labak), Ben Hendriks (Anita Hendriks) and Micki Hendriks, as well as his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, many nieces and nephews, countless friends, colleagues and acquaintances.
Will had a great sense of humour, he loved to make people laugh and was not afraid to be silly. He was always willing to offer a helping hand, was a self-taught handy man, and teacher. Will was a hard worker and his tenacity served him well in many aspects of his life. His free time was fun-filled with family, sports, friends, and travel.
Will was a loving husband, loyal brother, dedicated father, caring grandfather, and a true friend.
He will be deeply missed.
