Edna Allen Obituary
It is with broken hearts that the family of Edna Allen announce her passing on Wednesday, November 20th, 2024 at the St. John St. Stephen Nursing Home. Born on January 3, 1939, in Willow Grove, she was the daughter of the late Dean Allan, Mary (Porter), step mother Marie Allan.
Edna is survived by her son Stephen Doherty (Larry); daughters Mary (Avard) MacKenzie, and Katherine Doherty (David Silva); daughter-in-law Carrie Doherty, grandchildren: Amy, Jamie, Elizabeth, Brittany, Brandon, Morgan, Sara, Meagan, Naomi, Noah, John, Alex and Logan; great grand children Blakely, Peyton, Gabrielle, Matthew, Emma, Warren, Ellie, Issac, Emberly and siblings Wendell Allan, Pat Allan (Jean); sisters Sharon Thompson, Gail (Ted) Bennett, Kim Gennis, Dora (Donnie) Marsden, Sandra MacPherson, Sheryl Allen, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Edna was predeceased by her first husband Roy Doherty, second husband Gordon
Allen, sons Charles Doherty, Roy Doherty Jr., daughters Emily Doucette, Phyllis Roy, Patricia Doherty, sisters Donna, Barbara, Vivian, and brothers Sydney and Glenville.
A 25 year employee at Kennebec Manor Nursing home, she loved her career and took great pride in caring for the residents. During the Christmas holidays, she would make sure all the residents had gifts from Santa and were ‘festive ready’ for the Family.
Mom’s talent for baking was unmatched – her bread, rolls, and pies were nothing short of magical. Growing up, Sunday suppers were a treasured tradition, made even more special by the delicious homemade treats she prepared with so much love.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506 646-2424). A visitation will be held Tuesday November 26th from 11am to 2pm, Funeral Liturgy at 2pm in the Fundy Chapel, followed by the interment at Fernhill Cemetery. A reception to follow will take place at Fundy Funeral Home.
For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Elizabeth Fry Society or a charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family.
