John Vellinga Obituary
Vellinga, John
God is Love, Love is God.
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of John Vellinga, age 79 years, on November 19, 2024 at Chatham Kent Hospital. John was the loving husband of Judy for 57 years, a beloved father of Jennifer (predeceased February 2020), David (Larissa) and Michael. He was a dear brother of Jake (Pat) Carp, ON and Pete (Liba), St. Thomas, ON. John was the proudest «Papa» of his seven grandchildren Jake, Brady, Lydia, Alexandra, Talon, Coen and Margo.
John was born in Holland and came to Canada when he was six years old, along with his parents Bert and Winnie Vellinga and his brothers.
John loved hockey, especially the Montreal Canadiens, whose game he watched on the evening of November 18 and thoroughly enjoyed them winning the game.
He loved music and a favourite pastime was watching the birds in his backyard.
John was a wonderful, amazing and loving family man and loved the simpler things of life.
In kindness, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
John will be laid to rest beside his beloved daughter Jennifer. Visitation will be held at Reid Funeral Home, 14 Russell Street, Leamington (519-326-2631) on Monday, November 25, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service to celebrate John’s life at 1:00 p.m. Burial to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences and cherished memories may be shared with the family at www.reidfuneralhome.ca
