LOCKARD, Jimmy “Deep Sea” – you made your final dive on Saturday, October19, 2024. We are truly heartbroken…. To say goodbye is one thing we won’t, because you never did- “too final” you’d say. To say we’ll miss you is not enough – you and your mischievous grin. The smile that always surfaced for your favourite things: diving, Sylvia’s cooking, ice cream and, of course, a good joke (“sh*t disturbing). Loving husband of Sylvia (nee Szukis) for 54 years. His many dive adventures around the world had him “spending the inheritance” of Erinn (James), Susan (Dan) and Gord (Stacy). He was the proudest grandfather of his eight grandchildren, Stephanie Dunits, Skyler (Ian) and Kelton Pritchard & Cody MacNeil, Liam, Sophie and Daphne Cadeau & Leon Lockard. Brother of Carolyn (Ted) Greves, Liz (late Rick) Guitard, and Mary (Norm) Lumsden. Brother-in-law of Kristy (Bruce) Moore, and Ed (Jo-Anne) Thomas. Favourite Uncle Jimmy to many nieces and nephews. Born to Gord and Emma Lockard in Queenston, he was a child of the 50’s – free to explore! He found his way down to the Niagara River at a young age, where he was introduced to the wonders of marine life such as fishing, swimming, tubing and snorkeling. “Seahunt” on TV had him running home after school and propelled the life-long passion of his own underwater adventures. He would dive with his “till the end” dive partner Dave (Claudia) Gilchrist from many ports around the world. Jim was a regular at Dan’s Dive Shop and a founding member of “Save Ontario Shipwrecks”. He also was an ardent member of the Ontario Marine Heritage Committee. Jim recently recreated “The Dive Team” (check them out on Facebook!), a dedicated site for the members: Dave, Bill Lindberg, Ferdinando Correia (of Madeira) and himself, to share their talent of capturing the magnificence of underwater in photos and videos. In his over 50 years of Scuba diving, Jim’s very social personality had him meet and keep in touch with fellow divers from all over the world. He was well regarded and a memorable member of the diving community. After descending on his last fateful dive, tragically, he suffered a cardiac arrest. Jim’s love of photography wasn’t confined to underwater. He was always the one with a camera in hand. Starting at the Niagara Advance as a photojournalist he moved on to manage a photo store. After changing career paths, Jim retired from TST Overland Express, where he drove transport for over 35 years. As he drove through the night listening to Paul Harvey, Jimmy “Deepsea” could be heard chatting on the CB radio with his fellow truckers. If you remember hearing the sound of bagpipes in the Northend, they came from Noelle Drive. The neighbourhood lost “Its Biggest Kid” and the guy you could call and count on. Jim was always prepared with the tools and knowhow to help and get the job done. We are thankful and will forever feel blessed, for your love of us all. May you rest in calm waters forever. Friends and family are invited to Morgan Funeral Home, 415 Regent Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake, on Wednesday October 23, 2024 from 6 to 9 pm. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 12 pm on Thursday October 24, 2024 at Morgan Funeral Home. Those who wish may make a memorial donation to The Humane Society of Greater Niagara. Memories, photos, and condolences may be shared at www.morganfuneral.com
