It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Dermot John Hawco of Rushoon, NL announces his passing. Dermot passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on October 17, 2024 at the age of 78.
The measure of a man is not by his wealth or his belongings but by the love he has for his family, the favours he does for his neighbour and the way he puts a hand out to one in need. It is measured by the laughter he creates in others and the work ethic in his bones. By the legacy he leaves behind in his children, grandchildren and great grand children. Dermot John Hawco (Derm) was the true measure of a man and that is how he will be remembered by anyone who knew him. His love for the out doors was unmeasurable, from the land to the sea, animals big or small hunting was his passion! A true outdoorsmen in every sense. Known from one end of the country to the other as a master carpenter or some would say jack of all trades, the stories from his friends who could always count on him to be by their side on a home project to building houses from start to finish and his workmanship are many.
Derm leaves to mourn his loving and devoted wife of 57 years Regina; their children, Denise, Sandra, Derm (daughter in law Kim), Darlene (son in law Dave), Paula (son in law Eldon) and Lynette (son in law Pius); their grand- children, Elizabeth (Carl), Miranda (Taylor), Angelina (Kyle), Nicholas, Ryan, Devon, Riley and Rachael, Jeffery(Stacy), PJ (April) and Bradley (Melissa); their great grand- children Noah, Haley, Carter, Roman, Christina, Elizabeth, Brody and Brenden. Everyone of them were the pride and joys of his life. Also, leaving to mourn his sisters, Doris, Marg and Carry; brother Ernest and a very large circle of extended family and friends near and far.
Derm is predeceased by his father, John Hawco; his mother Marion Murphy; step father Ernest Murphy; his sister, Celina and his brother, Jim.
The Hawco Family will be accepting visitors at Wiseman’s Funeral Home, Marystown on:
Sunday, October 20, 2024 at
10:00am to 12:00pm
2:00pm to 4:00pm
7:00pm to 9:00pm
A funeral service will take place at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church at:
Monday, October 21, 2024 at 1:00pm
Interment to follow at Christ the King RC Cemetery.
