Obituary
Quinlan, Judith Anne (Cunningham) – 79, of Clark’s Harbour passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at home with her family. Born on June 14, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York; she was the daughter of the late Walton and Bertha (Schwertfeger) Cunningham. Judith is survived by her husband of 61 years, Edward Quinlan; son Timothy (Jennifer), Clark’s Harbour, and daughter Melanie (Joseph) Nickerson, River Head; grandchildren, Kaleigh (Keith) and Kassidy (Aaron); five great-grandchildren, Grayson, Madelyn, Kaiden, Silas and Isabelle. She is also survived by her three brothers, George (Patsy), Fenton, and Adlai (JeriLynn) Cunningham; nephews, nieces, and many cousins who were all very dear to her. Judith worked at several different occupations throughout her life which included bookkeeper for her husband’s businesses, lifeguard at the Teddy Swimm Memorial Pool, real estate agent, home care support provider for Annapolis Valley Home Care, and various temporary work positions in the Clearwater area of Florida. Judith dedicated a great deal of her time to volunteer organizations, and this was something she remained passionate about throughout her life. She joined the Sea Breeze Rebekah Lodge #24 Clark’s Harbour on December 10, 1969, and was also an active, associate member of St Eudora Rebekah Lodge #43 Berwick. She held offices in various other volunteer organizations she belonged to, including the Clark’s Harbour Home and School Association, Teddy Swimm Memorial Pool Committee, Western Counties Regional Library Board, and the Canadian Cancer Society – Barrington/ Clark’s Harbour Unit. Her work for the Teddy Swimm Memorial Pool Committee and the Western Counties Regional Library Board included fund raising and advocacy to build both a swimming pool and library in the town of Clark’s Harbour. She had a personal love of swimming and reading, as well as the desire to provide opportunities and access to those pursuits for others. Judith belonged to a sewing group where she enjoyed another of her hobbies, took up quilt making, and developed special friendships with the ladies who met to sew together. While working on her own sewing projects, it’s also estimated that she made a thousand chemo hats for the Sunshine Room, VG site. Judith attended church while in the Annapolis Valley at Berwick Baptist Church, and while home in Clark’s Harbour, the New Testament Baptist Church at The Hawk. Visitation will be held from 7-9 on Thursday, October 17 at HM Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. Funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, October 18, from the Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, Pastor Mullai Monoharen officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund or the charity of your choice. Please consider making the donation of your time as a volunteer to an organization in need, or close to your heart, as the best way to remember Judith. She would love that.
