Sadness holds hands with beautiful memories as Cindy’s family announces her death at Hospice Halifax on Oct. 4, 2024. Born on Dec. 20, 1956, Cindy was the youngest child in a family of 10 children born to Phyllis and Harvey Tingley. At sixteen years of age, following her father’s death, Cindy and her mother moved from Point de Bute, NB, to Fredericton, NB, where she graduated from Fredericton High School. In her adult years, Cindy described herself a homemaker, farmer, and book keeper. When she moved from a rural community to the big city of Halifax eleven years ago, she was quickly woven into a wonderful circle of friends and blossomed into a newness of life. She became the author of three children’s books (a fourth soon to be published) and a co-facilitator of a Widows in Self Help group in Halifax known as WISH. She was a lover of nature and of all animals, especially cats. She was a member of a meditation group as well as a drummer’s group, and the “You Gotta Sing” choir when it initially formed. Cindy loved to act and to sing and she had a wicked sense of humour often setting those around her to raucous laughter.
Cindy is survived by her sisters, Gwen Estabrooks, London, ON, Charlotte Goodwin (Art), Fredericton, NB, Diane Tingley, Halifax, Faye Innes, Oakville, ON, Brenda Tingley (John) Long’s Creek, NB; also by her brothers, Roger Tingley (Phyllis), London, ON, Lewis Tingley (Gil), Moncton, NB, and Gary Tingley (Shelly), Amherst. She was predeceased by both her parents and her sister, Joyce Hoyt.
A Celebration of Cindy’s life will be held at the Fairbanks Center in Shubie Park, Dartmouth, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA, the Canadian Cancer Society, or to a charity of your choice.
