Our beloved father, Gerald G. “Jerry” Vague passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on October 3rd, 2024.
He leaves behind his five children, Rhonda, Kerri (Conley), Randy, Todd (Corrie) and Jodi (Dave); and five grandchildren Kacie, Zachary, Noah, Dylan and Ethan.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, Claudette to whom he was married for 55 years.
Jerry is survived by his two siblings Larry (Pam) Vague and Marilyn (Mel) Wakefield. He will be missed by all who loved him.
A Funeral Mass, will be celebrated, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Parish, 7508 29 Avenue, Edmonton, on October 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
Jerry will be laid to rest, the following day, October 24th in the church cemetery of St. Albert Catholic Parish, 7 St. Vital Avenue, St. Albert. The family welcomes anyone who would like to join them for a short graveside blessing at 11:00 a.m.
Jerry was a man of few words, who was known for his quick wit, spicy sense of humour and his love of red heads. He was a dedicated public servant for over 33 years with the Government of Canada (Canada Employment Centre). His public service work extended to serving in the Air Force Reserves (418 Squadron) and Militia Intelligence. His passions included his family, camping, curling and genealogy. He and his wife Claudette were long standing members of the Klondike Trailer Club, where they made many lifelong friends. In addition to curling twice a week at the Shamrock Curling club, well into his eighties, he volunteered at a number of curling bonspiels including the Brier and the Continental Cup. Jerry’s love of curling led him to become an Official (umpire) with the Alberta Curling Federation. In his retirement, he also volunteered at the Alberta Archives and the St. Albert Historical Society.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alberta Diabetes Institute Donations Fund at the University of Alberta to make a gift online, or send donations payable to the “University of Alberta” to the Office of the Recording Secretary | 3-600, 10230 Jasper Ave NW, Edmonton AB T5J 4P6, noting your donation is in memory of Gerald Vague or to the Girl Guides of Canada.
