John passed away after a long battle with chronic illness at Winchester District Memorial early on September 26th, 2024. At the tender age of 66 years young. John was celebrating 48 years of marriage to his beloved wife, Virginia. John was an amazing dad and father-in-law to his daughter Tracy and her husband Stephane, and his son Johnny. John was known as papa to his three grandsons, Troy, Christien, and Dylan as well as grampa to many furbabies. He was the eldest child of the late Berthold Thillmann and late Flavie Dunn, and older brother to his sister Elizabeth. He was a dear brother-in-law to Les and his wife Jodi, Patty, and Jo-Ann and her husband Carlos, as well as uncle to a number of nieces and nephews.
John was a stonemason who built his own construction company from the ground up and there are many examples of his great work across Ottawa and the surrounding area. He was a man who was larger than life, gregarious, and always had a smile on his face and a joke ready to make everyone around him laugh. He had a knack for putting people at ease and was also ready to chat with anyone. As a husband and father, John always went the extra mile to make sure his family had great memories and fun times; from annual road trips to regular family game nights. He always made time to attend important events for his children, from baseball games to annual air cadet parades. John was a huge animal lover who took immense joy in spoiling his own pets as well as his grand-furbabies. He was known to be a whiz with numbers and always knew where he was going. John will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
