The man, the myth,
the legendary bus driver, Harold Alexander Collett has made his
departure from this life and is on the road again in another
realm.
Harold took great
pride as a bus driver for 35 years. He was often known as the
«cool bus driver» the one who was laid back and hit the
bumps out the Killarney Road just right. Years after he retired many
of the now adults who used to ride on his bus were driving the
ambulances he usually found himself riding in, in his later years. He
was well remembered, and Harold did his absolute best to remember
every kid who ever took his bus. Finishing off his career on the
special needs/wheelchair bus, Harold loved every child he encountered
and made sure they knew how important they were. Communicating with
kids was Harold’s thing. He was so good at
it.
During his
retirement he also picked up model trains as a hobby and took great
pride in taking over half the basement with his train set up. He was
so enthusiastic for anyone to come over and see what new additions he
was adding.
Harold loved tea and
later on, coffee like a fish loved water. If you were coming over to
the house, you knew that you were going to be offered a cup of tea and
asked for you to see the
trains.
Harold leaves behind
his devoted wife Dianne, of 49 years. Soulmates from their
20’s. One daughter, Melissa and 4 grandchildren, Ellie,
Weston, Benson, & Madison. Harold adored his grandchildren and
was the best kind of grampy there ever was. It was common to find
Harold on Melissa’s doorstep on Christmas morning at 5am
ready and waiting to see the kids open their gifts. He was always the
first to arrive at a birthday party or a Christmas concert at the
school. And always in the front
row.
Harold also leaves
behind sisters, Joan (bob), Sharon (Larry), Reggie (Gloria) and is
predeceased by Both parents, Victor and Helen Collett and a brother
Richard
(Patricia)
Harold will be
remembered as the man who was always willing to lend a hand, be there
when you needed him. He will be remembered for his compassion for
children who were facing harder situations than others and be so very
very missed.
The family will
receive friends & visitors on Thursday, October
3rd, 2024, from 6-8PM at Bishop’s
Funeral Home & Crematorium 540 Woodstock Road Fredericton. A
private family interment will take place in the Sunny Bank Cemetery at
a later date. For those who wish, the family has suggested memorial
donations in Harold’s memory be made to the NB Heart
& Stroke Foundation or The Canadian Association for Williams
Syndrome. The
