Jacqueline «Jackie» Hynes Obituary
Jacqueline R. Hynes
June 3, 1952 – September 27, 2024
Jacqueline Rachel Hynes has taken leave of this earth to live with the angels of whom she is indeed one of them. “Mrs. Hynes”, as hundreds of children in Bishop’s Falls knew the little lady who taught Kindergarten at Leo Burke Academy and Helen Tulk Elementary for 30 years, surrendered her life to God and heaven after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Jackie Hynes came to Bishop’s Falls with her MacLean family as a young teen from Bell Island after her ‘father’ was relocated here with NL Hydro in the late 1960s. Following her studies at Memorial University, she found employment as a teacher, initially in Botwood but transferred to the new Leo Burke Academy in Bishop’s Falls shortly thereafter.
She was the little teacher of the little ones. Music, laughter, singing and learning filled the halls of LBA for many years and Helen Tulk Elementary afterwards as Kindergarten class after class met their first teacher who is so lovingly remembered by so many of them to this very day.
The young teacher’s popularity extended beyond the students, however, when early in her career, she met Kevin Hynes, who made her the “apple of his eye” very quickly. She was definitely “the one” for him, and they were married shortly thereafter – a love that blossomed and lasted over 50 years. They were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Nola, and loving son, Kevin, Jr.
Her teaching dedication was exceeded only by her love of her family and her devotion to her Catholic faith. Ever devoted to her Church Choir, she participated in developing and recruiting both youth and parents to join the choir of the Church, spent numerous hours practising, preparing music, and playing piano for all seasons of the Church liturgical year. And she taught the little children their religion through the Church, as well as for all major events of their young lives- their First Communion, First Confession and Confirmation. Her fervent devotion to the Church and prayer was evidenced in her daily life as well and prepared her for the happiness that greets her in heaven.
Jackie is predeceased by her dear father, Stanley Bartlett, her second loving father William (Bill) and her mother Mary (Bartlett) MacLean, her brother Noel Bartlett, and her brothers -in-law, Tom Morris, Leo Hynes, Alonzo Hynes, William and Michael Hynes; her sister-in-law, Mary (Hynes) Power.
She leaves to mourn her loving and devoted husband of almost 50 years, Kevin, her son, Kevin, Jr., and her daughter, Nola (Fredericks) of Halifax Nova Scotia; her two grandsons, Ian and Austin, and her son-in-law, Matthew Fredericks. Also left to mourn are her brother Sean MacLean (Donna), sisters, Maureen (Glen) O’Keefe, Michelle (Pat) Clarke, Pier (McLean) Morris, and Francine (Larry) Wrice.
Also included are her many nieces and nephews, teaching colleagues at both Leo Burke Academy and Helen Tulk Elementary, members of the Sacred Heart Parish choir, neighbours and friends.
The Holy sacrifice of the Mass will take place on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Sacred Heart Church, Bishop’s Falls, at 11:00 A.M. Interment will take place at a later date.
Pallbearers for the Mass are: Thomas Power, Thomas Morris, Shannon Hynes, Michael O’Keefe, Glen O’Keefe, Jr., and Nicholas Clarke.
Flowers graciously accepted, or donations to the Sacred Heart Parish choir, Bishop’s Falls, NL, also accepted.
The family expresses its appreciation to the staff of the Central Regional Health Care Center and the Grand Falls-Windsor Long Term Health Care Center and for their care and attention to Jackie during her illness.
They also thank Father Moses, the Altar Society of Sacred Heart Parish, the Church Choir and the Knights of Columbus for their services to the family.
A reception will be held at the Knights of Columbus following the Funeral Mass on Tuesday.
