Marlene Elsie Henuset Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we say farewell on this side of heaven to Marlene Elsie Henuset. She was reunited with the love of her life Al Henuset on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at age 78. Marlene was a cherished mother, grandmother, aunt and dear friend to many. In recent years Marlene fought bravely through many health complications. At the time of her passing she was surrounded by her surviving
children and their families at Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary, AB. We are grateful for the sacred time together as we prayed and sang and played some of Marlene’s favourite songs and hymns – especially by Elvis and loudly of course – just the way she liked it.
Marlene was born in Winnipeg, MB on November 30, 1945 to parents Don and Edith McKinnon and was the first born of 3 children followed by her brothers Don and Ken.
Marlene and Al met through close friends and they married in Winnipeg on July 20th, 1968. They would have celebrated 55 years of marriage in the summer of 2023. Al worked as a bank manager for various banking institutions which took them across the provinces of Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta. Marlene continued to turn each house into a home for their family wherever life and career took them.
Life’s adventures took Marlene many places after departing her home City of Winnipeg with significant time spent in Lloydminster and eventually settling in Beiseker, AB. Here they made their final family home joined by their beloved dogs Ben and later Buddy. Marlene looked forward to regular camping trips at Wyndham Carseland Provincial Park where she had many treasured memories. Marlene and Al were very involved in community life in Beiseker for over 25 years before moving to Lambert Village in Strathmore in 2021.
Marlene’s generous compassion for those who had experienced hardship was a hallmark of her character. While in Lloydminster, Marlene’s passion led her to work at the local women’s shelter. Helping women and families who needed sheltering and resources was a passion dearly close to her heart. Marlene was an avid crafter, sewer and baker. She was part of the Ladies Quilting club in Beiseker where they made blankets for the Christmas Hamper and also donated blankets to organizations who support houseless people and families over the holidays.
Marlene was always giving and gifting. Her love of crafting and baking became a big part of her special times with her granddaughters and all four girls were well supplied with beautiful hand-sewn PJ’s and other treasures throughout their growing years. We know you have a sweet-tooth nana and we will be sure to raise our forks in honour of you as we dive into the family pumpkin cheesecake this year to remember your fierce love of family, your terrific hugs and your great laugh.
Marlene is survived by her son, Jason (Rebecca) with granddaughters Karissa and Kylie; her daughter, Kristi (Terry) with granddaughters Rebecca and Allisha; her brother, Don (Judi); her sisters-in-law Lynne (Ken), Brenda (Harvey), Lorna (Mel) and Judy (Dean); her brothers-in-law Randy and Gary (Debbie). She is also survived by nieces, nephews and extended family whom she cared for deeply.
Marlene was greeted in heaven by parents Don and Edith McKinnon, brother Ken, her in-laws Adolphe and Jeanette Henuset, brothers-in-law Mel and Dean, sister-in-law Debbie, and niece Coraleigh.
The family would like to thank the many friends and relatives who have offered condolences and support including the residents of Lambert Village retirement home and Wheatland Funeral Home. We are grateful for the ongoing support given to Marlene by Bayshore Home Care staff since Al’s passing. Special thanks to Wheatland EMS and the doctors, nurses and staff at Peter Lougheed Hospital for their
exceptional compassion and care.
A private celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, October 26th in Leduc, AB. Please contact the family for details if you would like to attend. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are invited to please share a personal favourite memory or photo with the family or make a donation to your local women’s or homeless shelter to honour her memory.
