Obituary
It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Genevieve Mary Meehan (née Critch) at Agnes Pratt Home, St. John’s, on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at the age of 96 years.
Predeceased by our dad, Tom (2006), her parents John & Honora Critch and all her siblings: Steve, Mary, Marg, Eileen, Sadie, Florrie, Lawrence and Dot.
Left to celebrate her life are her children: Helen (Harold), Randy (Tamara), Sharon, Janice (Ed) and Tom (Patsy); her grandchildren: Michael (Shannon), Kathleen (Dane), Jennifer (Will), Lindsay, Colton, and Allison; as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews.
Mom was certainly larger than life. She was always an active woman within her community and her circle of friends. She was one of the founding members of Yesterday’s Youth Club and an active member of Rural Development in her heyday… but her greatest interests, aside from her family, were her love of singing, dancing, trouting, and playing a fierce game of cards. No one was spared from her competitive spirit! She was always the life of any party with her boundless energy and sense of fun. This we will miss along with her talents in knitting, sewing and every household chore.
In her final years, mom was greatly helped by her homecare worker, Karen Butler, the nurses, and staff of Agnes Pratt Home and those who visited during her stay there. We thank you all for your kindness and compassion, especially during her final days. The family would also like to express thanks to Gibbons’ Funeral Home for their professionalism during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held at Gibbons’ Funeral Home, St. Mary’s, at a time to be announced. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, St. Mary’s at a time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.
