It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of JOHN RUDOLPH MORGAN of Port Hope. Born in Belleville Ontario on October 18, 1941, and died on September 18, 2024, at the age of 82 after a short illness.
John was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather. Survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Diane Morgan (Giles), his adoring sister Maryann McPherson (Jim), his children, Debbie Dubbeld (Eric), Geoff Morgan (Kathy), Peter Morgan (Jennifer). He will be deeply missed by his 9 grandchildren, Kendal, Austin, Tristan (Justine), Griffin, Noah, Rainna, Jenssen, Addison, Sarryn and his 5 great grandchildren, Tripp, Jett, Nova, Colton and Ayla. He was a wonderful brother-in-law and good friend to Virginia (Giles) and John Marshall, the late Bill Giles (Edna) and was a wonderful uncle to many nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Ryerson, Trent and Queens Universities, John enjoyed a successful, long-term career teaching Industrial Chemistry, Science and English and went on to be the Head of Guidance at the Port Hope High School. He cared about his students and was committed to their growth. He was always ready to lend an ear, he offered solid advice and in turn many have expressed their gratitude for his influence in their lives.
Outside of work, John was passionate about painting, and we are fortunate to have many beautiful pieces of his art as a reminder of his gentle and caring nature. He loved to garden, camp and spend time with Diane and his kids whom he had a very caring and loving relationship with. He was a wonderful father who always was available to help out and to talk to. John looked forward to golfing with his friends and playing tennis and he treasured his regular egg runs to see the late Larry Robins to pick up a case of bacon, chocolate from Worlds Finest and cheese from the Empire Cheese factory. John continued all these things after retirement, enjoying winters in Tarpon Springs Florida, where they met many new friends and spent many ‘happy hours’ together. Friday night dinners at the Beamish House with Diane and friends became a favourite outing when travelling south was no longer an option.
Many thanks to the Doctors and nurses at Northumberland Hills Hospital, And to neighbours and friends, Ed Irwin. Joyce and Bill Sager, Pat Brooking, Tracey and Eldon Bodashefsky, Patsy Bouckley, Wilma and Larry Austin, Gerry and Gail Ryan and Rex and Judy Zimmerling for your cherished visits and your continued love and support.
There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to the Canadian Cancer Society.
A celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
