Young, Christopher Leo «Chris»:
Passed away suddenly, due to a cardiac arrest, on September 17, 2024, at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital, in St. Thomas, ON at the age of 62.
Cherished brother of Bill (Jane), Dr. Anne Young, Jim (Marie), Joe (Cheryl), Tom (Carolyn), Dr. John (Jane), Mary Radyk (Denis Rea), Dr. Peter (Jane), Jane Young (Mark Cooper), and Julie Garrett (Alex).
Loving uncle of Billy, Joey, Bobby, Joe, BJ, Adam, Elizabeth, Michael, Tommy, Sara, Sean, Christopher, Jeffrey, Luke, Rachel, Jimmy, Mitchell, Lauren, Nick, Julia, Mark, Annie, Alex, and Katie.
Predeceased by his parents Dr. William «Bill» Young and Betty Ann (Schnurr).
Chris grew up in the Waterloo Region but spent the majority of his adult life in St. Thomas ON. In his youth, he was an accomplished athlete participating in hockey, football, and tennis. Chris played Jr. B hockey for the Waterloo Siskins and the Elmira Sugar Kings. He loved watching sports and was a Boston Bruins and Detroit Lions fan.
Chris was very active and was always walking everywhere he went. He enjoyed going to the rink daily for a skate and frequently attended the YMCA to work out, swim and keep active. When not at the rink, he enjoyed riding his bike around Pinafore Park or to Port Stanley Beach. In the colder months, he would often attend the library and read various newspapers to keep up on current events.
Chris was a wonderful uncle. He looked forward to hearing about the successes of all his nieces and nephews and loved seeing them. He was a loving brother and was the catalyst in keeping the family very connected to each other. Throughout his life, he held his religious convictions close to his heart.
Chris struggled during his life with mental health issues and was a true champion in dealing with all the challenging that came along with this illness.
He will be deeply missed but we are comforted that he is now at peace and can join our parents into eternal life.
A private family service will take place. Arrangements entrusted by Henry Walser Funeral Home, 519-749-8467.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association- Thames Valley (St. Thomas Branch) would be appreciated in lieu of flowers. (cards available at the funeral home).
