It is with sadness, the family of Winston Ames Young announce his passing which occurred peacefully and with family by his side at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, PE, on Saturday, August 31, 2024. Born to the late Washington and Kathryn Young on March 16, 1935, he was aged 89 years of Kingsboro, PE.
Winston was a loving partner to Poppy Humphrey and a caring father of the late Mark (Michelle), Wade (Sheila), Kathryn (Mark), and Debra (Paul). He will be remembered as a caring grampa to Vaughn, Jake, Elisha (Tyler), Kaylee, Audrey (Legion), Marian, Jag, William, Rachel (Mitchell), Olivia, Dylan (Amanda) and great grampa of Adaline, Damon, Atlas, and Lirael. In addition, he is survived by his sister Amy Young and the late Roma Young. Dad will be missed by his nieces, nephews, especially Denise, Michelle, Tara and Rob, cousins, neighbours and friends. Also fondly remembered by the Lambert family.
Winston was born on Young’s Hill and went to school in Kingsboro. He worked locally on neighbouring farms before leaving PEI to join his father in Kingston, Ontario and pursue further education. He went to trade school in Toronto, where he became a machinist and mechanic. He later returned to the homestead in Kingsboro with his family.
Thank you to Megan Smallwood – Geriatric Program, the EMS of Charlottetown, Dr Wonnacott, Dr Biswas, Dr MacLaren, the nurses in emergency and Unit 3 and the Constant Care team who all provided exemplary care to dad and our family. Your kindness is appreciated.
A visitation will take place at the Kingsboro Baptist Church on Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 10:00-11:00am. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held in the church at 11:30am. Interment will follow in the Kingsboro Cemetery. If so desired, donations in memory of Winston can be made to the Kingsboro Cemetery Fund, the South Lake Cemetery Fund, or the Eastern Kings Health Foundation (Souris Hospital).
