She was the wife of the late Ed Matheson and the late George McCaffrey, loving mother of Ron Matheson (Darla), Kathy Langille (Bill) and Shelley Pickard; cherished Grandma and Nana to seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is also remembered lovingly by all in her stepfamily, the McCaffreys who held a special place in her heart.

Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the McBeath-Dynes Funeral Home 246 Thames Street South, Ingersoll from 12 – 2pm with a Celebration of Life service at 2pm. Interment will follow at Grove Cemetery. Memorial donations to The Canadian Lung Association or the Palliative Care Program at John Noble Long Term Care Home, Brantford would be appreciated.
Over the years, Catherine worked as a piano teacher, owned her own diner, Kay’s Kitchen, and was the manager at the cafeteria at Flamborough Downs. She had a passion for music and attended the Western Conservatory of Music where she attained an Associateship Grade 10 level. Her love of the piano was evident by her time spent playing for various churches and performances here at home and in Florida, most recently at West Oxford United Church.
Catherine’s faith in God was an important part of her life and she was a person of prayer for others in need and support for anyone who came across her path. She was an example of the love of Christ to everyone. She had many favourite passages of scripture, one being Psalm 23. She often quoted Proverbs 15:1, “A gentle response defuses anger, but a sharp tongue kindles a temper-fire”. So, choose your words wisely.
Catherine and George enjoyed winters in the company of many friends in Clearwater, Florida where Catherine’s other passion was the art of Paper Tole. While in Clearwater she entered art shows at Busch Gardens, the Florida State Fair and won many awards. Some of her artwork has been on display in the city council chambers in Tampa and in Tampa’s sister city in Japan.
Early in life Catherine played baseball as the team pitcher along with her sister Ollie. She would often say to us kids, “Hold your glove up and don’t move it!” She never missed. She kept that passion alive over the years by cheering for the Toronto Bue Jays. She met many Blue Jay players while attending spring training games in Florida with George and as recently as two weeks ago watched games on TV. She excelled at sports, winning many bowling trophies, and learned to play golf later in life. She seldom lost at card games, and never lost at crokinole, even though many in the family tried their hardest to break her winning streaks.
Catherine had a wonderful sense of humour and outlook on life. She always had a joke on tap to tell anyone who would answer “Yes” to her question “Wanna hear a joke”? The staff at John Noble Home can attest to her humour as she often left them in laughter as they provided care to her. She was attentive to friends and family and always one of the first to offer help in times of need.
The family wish to extend our thanks to all family and friends for their prayers, visits, and support over the last year. Also, to the staff at John Noble Home for the care they provided at a difficult time in Catherine’s life.
