March 29, 1946 – August 16, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Thomas David Detheridge, regret to announce his sudden passing on Friday, August 16, 2024, at his home in Sydney.
Tom is survived by his partner of over 20 years, Mary White; his only son, who he adored, Michael Detheridge; and daughter-in-law, Carrie Bonnell. He is also survived by the mother of his son and lifelong friend, Lorraine Detheridge, New Waterford; brothers, Charlie and Danny (Claire); and several nieces and nephews.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Sarah Detheridge; sister, Jean Detheridge; and brothers, Bobby (Effie) and George (Marge) Detheridge.
Tom was employed by various construction companies and spent time with the Canadian Coast Guard. In later years, he was self-employed and enjoyed working odd jobs doing forestry and landscaping work across the island.
Known for his kind and generous ways, Tom was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need. He was also known for his great sense of humour and exceptional work ethic. Tom loved to travel and visit new places. He will be tremendously missed by many who loved to sit and listen to stories of his many, many adventures.
For over 40 years, Tom was a member of AA and also a proud member of the Free Masons.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will be held in St. Mark’s Cemetery, Coxheath on Monday, August 26th at 11 a.m.
Memorials in memory of Tom may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, St. Marks Cemetery, Coxheath or to a charity of your choice.
