AUCOIN, Francis “Frank” Alexander
It is with deep sadness that we the family announce the passing of Francis “Frank” Alexander Aucoin, who passed away Thursday August 15, 2024, in Lynch’s River, doing what he loved, riding his Harley.
Born in Sydney on November 5, 1961, he was the son of the late Lynus Joseph Aucoin and Theresa Ann (Marley) Pottie.
Frank was described in one word. Family. Nothing meant more to him than family and the time spent together. Whether by blood, chosen, extended, or if you just did him a «solid”, you were family, and he had your back. He grew up in Sydney, moved to Montreal with his family where at the age of 17 and with our mother’s hesitant signature he joined the Canadian Forces as a 2RCR, where he travelled the world with many deployments.
He eventually retired and moved to Digby where our Aunt Alice and Uncle Bill lived nearby, where he bounced…oh he loved that, and owned his own Garage for awhile. His itchy feet then had him out west, where he drove trucks on and off ice roads with his best friend and companion Sammy, who was with him when he moved back home for good when our Mom took ill.
Frank finally «retired» after Mom passed and he finally achieved his 14-year-old Frankie’s dream and got the Harley he thought was just that, and my God was he proud. He settled into his later life with his other riding partner and fiancé Karen, who spent many, many Sunday breakfasts at Robin’s with our Uncle Russell and Aunt Tillie, or bike trips to Cheticamp to visit the other Aunties and cousins.
Franks had many special bonds and relationships with so many friends and «Brothers and Sisters» that were not blood but the ones he chose to let stay in his life. I wish we could acknowledge you all but know, we know who you are and are deeply sad for your loss as well and we thank you for loving him as much as we did.
When Mom passed, she asked us to look after her boy. I hope you know The Girls did the best we could. He is back in your hands and arms again.
Frank is survived by his fiancé Karen Taylor, sisters Geraldine (Will), Sydney, Rose (Anthony), Antigonish, Teena (Russell), Sydney, nieces Tanya and Ashley, nephews Byron, Gerald, James, Josh, Jerritt, and Travis.
Besides his parents, Frank was predeceased by his loyal companion Sammy who travelled across Canada with him a few times.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral mass will be held Thursday August 22, 2024, in Holy Rosary Church at 2 pm, with Rev. Douglas Murphy officiating. Interment in Holy Rosary Cemetery. Following the Interment a reception will be held at the Westmount Volunteer Fire Department.
Memorials may be made to the Branch 12 Legion or charity of choice.
