Louie Ruccolo, known affectionately as Sweet Lou, El Guapo and Papa Ruccs, was a man whose zest for life was as contagious as his warm, engaging smile. Born on February 11, 1961, Louie’s journey through life was one marked by adventure, love, and an unwavering commitment to those he held dear. Louie’s curtain call came August 15, 2024, as he passed away peacefully at the age of 63, surrounded by the melodies of his favorite songs, a testament to his lifelong passion for music.
The son of Virginia and the late Nunzio Ruccolo, Louie inherited a legacy of love and resilience. His formative years were spent at Assumption High School, followed by further education at the University of Windsor, laying the groundwork for a life full of achievements and meaningful relationships. As a loving father, he instilled his values and joys into his children, Alyssa, with her partner Ron, and Mike, with his partner Rose. His role as a cherished brother and best friend to Guy, alongside Carmen, and as a loving Zio to Amanda and Nancy, with her husband Adam, further etched his place in the hearts of his family.
Louie’s devotion extended beyond his immediate family to include his longtime partner, Jackie, and his beloved furry companions: Charlie, Athena, Mr. Coco, and Teddy. The West Windsor Crew will forever remember him as the life of every party. Each of these relationships was nurtured with the same love and attention that he bestowed upon every aspect of his life.
Professionally, along with being a proud owner of Blue Star Nursery for 35 years, Louie worked at GM, HP and EDS, where he cultivated lasting friendships and a reputation for hard work and integrity. His dedication to his work was matched only by his dedication to his interests, which painted the picture of a vibrant man ever eager to embrace life’s pleasures.
A lover of music and a regular concert-goer, Louie’s heart beat to the tunes of The Clash, Styx, and Kiss. He was an enthusiastic sports fan, with a lifelong allegiance to the “rough and ready” Miami Dolphins and the Michigan Wolverines. He could be often found perched on his lazy-boy, watching his favourite films from his vast movie collection. Louie’s adventurous spirit found him traveling the globe. He could be found at any pool bar, striking up conversations with strangers who would soon become friends. His outgoing demeanor was as warm as the sun he so enjoyed basking in.
His creative eye for photography spurred him to capture his favourite things and favourite people, always striving for that perfect action shot. As a collector, sorter, organizer, and puzzler extraordinaire, Louie found joy in the simple act of bringing order to chaos. He was his happiest, with his family and friends, laughing, story telling and indulging in a plate of pasta, saucy ribs or spicy nachos.
Louie was sure to support McHappy Day each year, always indulging in a McDouble or two. In honour of Louie’s generosity and friendly spirit, donations to the Ronald McDonald House Southwestern Ontario would be greatly appreciated.
Visitation for Louie Ruccolo will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024, from 3-6 p.m. at Families First, 3260 Dougall Avenue, South Windsor. It is an opportunity for friends, family, and loved ones to come together to honor a life so beautifully lived and to bid farewell to a man who touched the lives of many.
Louie’s life was a symphony of joy, laughter, and love—a composition that will continue to play in the hearts of those who knew him. Rock on, Lou.
