CAMPBELL, Gail Marlene (August 11, 2024)
It is with great sadness that our family announce the passing of Gail Marlene Campbell, “Mom”, “Nannie” and “Dear Sweet Auntie Gail” on August 11, 2024, following a wonderful, fulfilling life that began on April 18, 1942. There are no regrets, only great memories that will carry on for decades.
Gail was predeceased by her husband, Ellwyn Campbell (May 13, 2024), survived by her children, Jamie Almas (Dee), Stephen Almas and Susan Duguay, Heather Campbell (Rudy), and grandchildren McKaila, Abby M, Abby B, Abby E, Griffin, Pearson and Ella. Gail was predeceased by her parents, Griffith and Janet Hall who she always adored, her sister Gwendolyn Bruce (Bill), brother Owen Hall (Suzanne), and brother-in-law, Donald Campbell (Judy). She is survived by sister-in-law Ellen Campbell, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Gail was a life-long resident of Niagara-on-the-Lake, having grown up on a farm in the tiny hamlet of McNab, a place she often reminisced about and then moving to Old Town. Early in her career she was employed by Scouts Canada and finished her career in the office at Avondale Dairy. Many will remember Gail as their former Girl Guide leader; however, more will remember her as a friend and co-worker from the dairy. It was a place that was very special to Gail; she often spoke fondly about the ‘Avondale family’ where she made some of her best friends and met the love of her life.
Gail and Ellwyn were inseparable for more than four decades. They lived the sweetest love story. Even in their final home together, they would walk to the dining room holding hands. Their display of love and support made a beautiful impression upon their care staff. It is comforting for her family to know that she and Ellwyn were together for that final journey. It surprises none of us that the journey would end together and mere weeks apart. As sad as it is for us to say goodbye, we know that Ellwyn was waiting to say hello.
Whether a daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, great aunt, friend or co-worker, Gail will always be remembered as such a kind and thoughtful person with a terrific sense of humour. Her greatest pride was her family. She was an avid gardener, had more cookbooks than Julia Child and knew how to make jam or jelly from any fruit or berry. If it could fit in a Mason jar, Gail could preserve it. She had the fastest knitting needles in town and could thread a sewing needle with both eyes closed.
Our family are so grateful for the excellent care and compassion that Gail received from Caregivers “Lori” and “Dee”, as well and the professional staff at Royal Rose Place, Welland.
A cremation has taken place. A private family service was always Gail’s request. However, she truly appreciated those memorable and happy times that brought us all together. Accordingly, in honour of Nannie, a special day for family, friends and former co-workers to gather and remember her has been planned. Please join us at Club Roma (Starlight Room), 125 Vansickle Road, St. Catharines on Sunday, September 29th, 2024, between 12 pm – 4 pm to celebrate her life.
If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region, 1-403 Ontario Street, St. Catharines, Ontario, L2N 1L5 or (905)-687-3914. Memories, photos, and condolences may be shared at www.morganfuneral.com
