Arthur “Art” Alfred Volke, late of Pilot Butte, SK, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2024, in Regina at the age of 87 with his family by his side.
Art was born to Joseph and Anna Volke on January 10, 1937. As the youngest child, he had many stories to tell about life with his parents, brothers and sister on the family farm near Big Beaver. He often reminisced and told stories about happenings at Ipsley Mound School and the shenanigans with his friends in the Big Muddy. The Big Muddy area was always near and dear to his heart.
Art married Betty Joanne Wilkie in 1961. They lived with their 2 young sons, Kenneth and Kirk, in Terrace B.C. where Art worked in the tire business. After Joanne and Kirk passed away due to a terrible accident, Art and Kenneth moved back to Regina.
Art married Lillian Rose Ulmer in 1969. After living in Regina for 5 years, they had a house built and moved to Pilot Butte to raise their 3 children, Kenneth, Heather and Jason. Art enjoyed the quiet small-town life and took pride in keeping their large yard well-manicured.
Most of his working life was spent in the tire business, although in his younger years, he worked at various jobs such as building basements in Regina and working on the railway near Assiniboia. After he retired, Art worked for a cab company driving children to school. He also drove a bus, transporting individuals to the Cosmopolitan Learning Centre in Regina.
When Art was younger, he enjoyed curling, playing ball, hockey, bowling and golfing. He was always ready to play a game of cards, go for a round of mini golf, a swim, a hike or to travel to B.C. After many years of camping, they bought a cabin at Good Spirit Lake. This was a special place for Art, as much family time was spent there. One of Art’s greatest joys was spending time with his family. Art also enjoyed being a member of the Golden Sunset Club in Pilot Butte. He was an avid Saskatchewan Rough Riders fan and rarely missed watching a game, whether it was in person or on T.V.
Art was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Anna; wife Joanne; son Kirk; siblings Frank, Blondina, Arnold, Herbert, Albert and Emma; sisters-in-law Patsy, Emma; brother-in-law Wally; and nephew Arthur.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Lillian; son Kenneth (Shannon) and their children Kailin and Jordan (Rae-Ann); daughter Heather (Murray) and their children Rebecca (Ryley), Ryan, Jenna (Wes) and Jaxon; son Jason (Denisa) and their children Taylor (Chelsea), Haylee (Carter) and Braden (Cassandra); great-grandson Benjamin; sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK, on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks friends and family to consider donating to Regina William Booth Special Care Home or to a charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank everyone who supported us through this journey.
