Is the sun shining today? At the age of 98 and 1/3 years old, it is with both sadness, and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of our father (Jean-Marie) Clement Morin, born to Ernest and Marie Morin. He joins his beloved wife of 63 years, Maria (2014) and step-granddaughter Jamie (2014)
Clem was a man of many names. Beloved Daddio to Johanna(Kamel), Richard (Norma), Theresa(Andy), Sandra(John). “Gramps, The Legend” to his grandchildren Jason, Simon(Tera), Vanessa(Dariusz), Sean, Chris(Ashley), Rebecca(David), Amanda (Paul), Trevor(Amy), Jack (Athena), Carly. Great-Grampa (G/G) to Alyssa, Lukas, Violet, Aria, Jude, Kaia. Ti’ Jos to his surviving brothers and sister, Egide, Roger and Micheline.
Uncle Clem or Mon Oncle ti’Jos to his many nieces and nephews. Clem Kiddlehopper, Frog or Frenchie to his many friends, and coworkers at the City of Toronto, where he worked for 34 years in Public Works. One of his most celebrated moments was when the month of being retired and collecting his pension, surpassed the time he was a working employee! He was forever grateful to Mayor Oliver Crawford for lining him up with his city job.
He had a wonderful sense of humour, always up for a harmless gag or regaling his limited joke list. It’s impossible to cross train tracks without thinking of him.
He loved the adventure of travel. Leaving home from rural Ste. Leon-de-Standon Quebec at the young age of 21, he hitchhiked to Ontario to learn English and to experience life beyond the farm, where picking beans was not his thing. While he eventually landed in Toronto, he never forgot where he came from and annually loaded his family into the car for the 10-12 hour drive along highway 2 to visit his parents. His love of travel took him to Europe, Israel, Columbia, and across Canada and the USA.
He was a man of faith who loved God, playing cards, oysters, a shot of cognac, cheese curds and sharing his stories.
Always a kind word and forever grateful to those who cared for him, especially his Holly, he appreciated all who loved him. Dad loved his family unconditionally, encouraged us to be kind to each other, go with the flow, work hard and enjoy life. His smile will be forever missed but never forgotten.
We would like to thank the team members at Port Perry Villa and Oak Ridges Hospice for their compassionate care of our dad.
Rest in peace Daddio, we know you’re driving a Cadillac, not rollerskates (or a Hyundai) up there! Not bad for an old guy like me.
A service to Celebrate Clem’s Life will be held on Saturday August 10, 2024, at 1:30 PM at Immaculate Conception Church Port Perry, 1710 Scugog Street, Port Perry. Interment to follow at Uxbridge Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Low and Low Funeral Home, Port Perry.
