It is with great sadness that we announce the
passing of our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and
friend, Mary Anne Mossman. Mary Anne 60- of East LaHave passed away
peacefully at the Halifax Infirmary on the 27th of May, 2024 with her
family by her side.
Mary Anne was the wife of Donnie aka honey! Mossman, daughter
of Marguerite and the late Harry Russell and the late Medford
Wentzell. Daughter in law to Harrold aka Grampy Mossman (Lynn), and
predeceased Sheila Mossman. Mother to Kendra Dominix (Jared)
Stepmother to Matthew Mossman (Amanda Handcock), Tim Mossman and
Grandmother to Noah (Eisabella), Jayden and Rowan. Sister to Lisa
(Miles) MacDougall and the predeceased Dale Wentzell. Sister in law to
Darrell (Mary Ann) Mossman and predeceased David and (Rachel) Mossman
and many nieces and nephews.
Mary Anne was born on the 21st of August, 1963 in West
Northfield. She grew up loving animals and her life on the farm. She
had many friends in the community that she spent time with on
bicycles, going to the drive in, turkey burger and dances. She
discovered her love for music early on when her mother
gave her a guitar and later had many jam sessions in her
bedroom with her sister Lisa.
Mary Anne was sixteen when she started at Riverport Seafoods.
After the buildings demise, Mary Ann found herself working at National
Sea as a line worker which later became Highliner. She spent 38 years
working for Highliner as a well respected colleague and face for the
company known all over the world. Mary Anne was a person who took
great pride in her work and it showed when she took on her latest
position as Quality Specialist.
Mary Anne met the love of her life, ‘Honey’ Donnie Mossman at
Highliner. What started as a simple conversation, turned into over 21
years of love and happiness. Married in the front yard of their home
place, Mary Anne and Donnie went on to create many memories with
friends and family. Many times you could find Mary Anne and
Donnie hosting get-togethers with music and loads of food. Nobody ever
left hungry! They found great joy in spending time with their friends
and family.
One of Mary Anne’s greatest joys was music. What started out
with a 50 dollar guitar and learning to pick cords turned into a
passion. Donnie told Mary Anne that if she stuck with it and continued
to practice he would one day buy her a better guitar. A couple years
later a trip to Long & McQuade ended with
Donnie surprising Mary Anne with her dream guitar, ‘Taylor’.
She went on to play that guitar at many music jams with Harrold
‘Grampy’. She loved her country music, especially George Jones, Conway
Twitty and Charley Pride.
Another joy of hers was spending time with friends. For
several years Mary Anne and Donnie stayed at the Little Lake
Campground six months out of the year. They met many people from all
parts of the world which later turned into lifelong friendships.
Again, hosting many large feeds ranging from, lobsters,
mussels, cod fish and potatoes, fish and chips with all the
trimmings.
Mary Anne’s character was caring and compassionate and this
shows through many selfless acts of kindness like; Anonymously buying
Christmas presents for families less fortunate and helping friends and
strangers in need. Mary Anne was a great listener, she was always
willing to lend an ear for anyone who wanted to
talk.
Her motivation and ambition was like no other. Mary Anne
started her active journey walking ten kilometres and more, which
later lead to her passion for running. Sometimes Mary Anne would run
over 20 kilometres and compete in various races like the Bluenose
Marathon and the Lunenburg Road Race and Muffin Run and many
others. Mary Anne also had a green thumb. You could find her out in
her gardens planting flowers of all kinds. She didn’t mind getting her
hands dirty. She enjoyed her yard work; painting anything that
required that little extra attention, mowing, weeding, carrying wood.
Hard work did not scare Mary Anne.
Mary Anne loved her fur babies. Charlee, Dusty and Patches
were her fur children. You could always find Dusty by Mary Anne’s legs
when she was working at the computer or standing up talking on the
phone and Charlee would accompany Mary Anne on the couch when some TV
time was needed. They say there is not greater
love than
that of an animal and Mary Anne sure was loved by her fur babies.
Mary Anne will be deeply missed by every heart that she
touched. She will surely leave behind her legacy of strength,
kindness, compassion and love.
We love you Mary Anne and we are grateful for all of the
moments that we shared. You will live forever in our
hearts.
A special thanks to the nurses, and staff in the 5.2 ward at
the Halifax Infirmary. Your care and compassion was deeply
appreciated.
Celebration of life will be held on August 24, 2024 from
