It is with great sadness that the family of Lorraine «Lolly» McCormack announce her passing on August 3, 2024, at the age of 82 after a brief battle with cancer at Souris Hospital.
The daughter of Bill and Irene Larter, Lorraine was born and raised in Charlottetown. Despite moving to Ontario as a teen, Lorraine always considered the island «home», and finally moved back to enjoy the remainder of her years in 2021. She was predeceased by her loving husband Hugh McCormack in 2018 after 36 years of marriage – she is finally able to reunite with her soulmate again.
She is predeceased by her sisters Carolyn McGowan and Joanne Howlett, and loving sister to Helen Sherry, Wilma Gany, and Maurice Larter. Loving mother to Tracey (2024), Derrick (Paula), and Michael (Lucia). Stepmother to Barb (George) and Mary (Doug).
Loving grandmother («Nana», as she was affectionately called) to Blair and Lolly, Alexandra and Brendan, Quinton and Tayler, Greg, Amanda and Stephanie, Amy, and Theresa. Great grandmother to Vincent, Sydney, Addison, Nathan, Matty, and Minnie. She will be sorely missed by her many nieces and nephews, especially her dear niece and close friend Joanne Mackinnon.
Lorraine lived with a zest for life, and was seldomly spotted without her beautifully styled hair, painted nails, and signature «Red» perfume. A long-time employee of Stelco Steel Company, Lorraine worked hard to support her three children, but found time to volunteer as a coach of the Swansea girl’s hockey team. Later in life, she would spend her winters with Hugh in Port Charlotte, Florida and made many dear friends there over the years. Her relatives will fondly remember her «Christmas in October» parties, where she served up such classics like «turnip puff» and «cheesy potatoes», which all of her grandchildren gobbled with glee.
In her spare time, Lorraine loved playing bingo at the local bingo hall, and cards with her grandchildren, wagering nickels and dimes over games of «31». Her favourite song was «Margaritaville» by Jimmy Buffett. She was a fantastic storyteller and a lovely human being.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Souris Hospital for providing excellent care and comfort during Lolly’s final months. Resting at Dingwell Funeral Home, Souris, with completed funeral arrangements to take place at a later date in Toronto, Ontario. If so desired, donations can be made to the Eastern Kings Health Foundation (Souris Hospital).
