It is with sadness yet hope that we announce the passing of Gerry Smith on July 15, 2024, at Hospice Niagara, in his 87th year.
Beloved husband to Janet Elisabeth for 65 years. Cherished father to Adrian (Carrie), Darren (Justine) & Hannah (Adrian) Jess. Loving grandfather to Nigel, (predeceased by) Silas, Paige, Hope, Venessa, Jordan, Chase, Gwen, and Jasmine. Brother to UK residents Cedric & Andrew and their respective families. Brother-in-Law to Kathleen (Jack) Benedet and uncle to Dale (Trish) & Scott (Tammy) Crawford. Predeceased by his parents Henry & Gwen and parents-in-law James & Ethel.
Gerry will be missed by many other dear friends, spiritual brothers & sisters and members of his extended family on both sides of the pond.
Gerry was born on July 31, 1936, in Cannock, England. He left home at age 16 to attend art college and had a productive career as a commercial artist, specializing in black and white illustration and photographic retouching. He spent 2 years in the military during which time he met the love of his life Janet who he married and started a family with. Gerry moved his young family to Canada in 1975. In 1958 Gerry dedicated his life to spiritual pursuits and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and faithfully served as an elder in many congregations for more than 5 decades.
Cremation has taken place and a service in his memory has been arranged for at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 93 Moffat Street in St. Catharines @ 3:00pm on Saturday July 27th, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerry’s memory can be made to Hospice Niagara where the staff displayed amazing compassion in caring for Gerry’s needs during his stay there.
