Parcourez la nécrologie de Wayne Joseph Grant Burke Wednesday July 10th 2024 résidant dans la province Ontario pour le détail des funérailles.
Wayne Joseph Grant Burke passed away on Wednesday, July 10th, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Villa in Sudbury. He was surrounded by those who loved him during his final days.
Wayne was born to Walter and Eva (Roque) Burke on March 3, 1945, in the village of Killarney, the youngest of seven. He loved growing up in Killarney, spending his summers fishing, swimming and boating and playing hockey in winter. As a teenager he was selected to play junior hockey in southern Ontario, but he eventually made his way home where he continued to play locally. He was a hockey fan throughout his life and remained dedicated to the Sudbury Wolves and Toronto Maple Leafs.
In 1967 he met and married Suzanne Gladu (predeceased in 2020). Wayne started working at Inco (now Vale), where he stayed until he retired in 1999. Wayne and Suzanne had two children, Barbara (Jim Radey) and Ian (predeceased). He was a wonderful and loving father and an even more special grandfather to his grandson Bennett who quickly became the centre of his world! He was a loving brother to Leonard, Willard (Neldra), Marguerite (Ray), Kenneth (Elva), Vernon (Rosa) and Lucy. All of his siblings and their spouses except for Rosa are predeceased. He was a loving brother-in- law to Gaetanne Gladu (Austin Lane). Wayne is survived by many loving nephews and nieces and cousins. Of special mention is his niece Lucy (Henry St. Amant). Both have been especially close and very supportive members of our family. He will also be missed by the many friends he made over the years including those he made most recently at St. Joseph’s Villa.
Wayne was a gentle, loving and kind man who made friends everywhere he went. He was very proud of everyone’s accomplishments but especially those of his grandson, Bennett. He was a strong Indigenous man who was very proud of his Ojibway and Odawa heritage. He loved camping, fishing and travelling. But most of all, he enjoyed being with his grandson Bennett. There are so many wonderful fathers and grandfathers out there, but without a doubt, my dad was the best.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Cindy Buzzell, who was his private caregiver and friend for the past couple of years. She brought comfort and sunshine into his life and ours and was a fierce advocate for everything he needed.
Donations to Diabetes Canada or your local Pet Save organization would be greatly appreciated.
As per his wishes, there will be no funeral visitation or service. Cremation.
