A Wonderful Life Cut Short
It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Marie “Celine” Clermont. She lost her battle with cancer early on Sunday morning July 14. She was a loving wife, step-mother to Danny and Mollie, and grandmother to Ziggy.
Anyone who visited her knew she had a passion for Betty Boop. Her Port Perry home is adorned with statues of all sizes, prints, ceramic art, wall hangings and even a Betty Boop slot machine. But perhaps her most cherished piece was her solid gold engagement ring, with blue sapphires for Betty’s eyes and diamonds in her skirt.
Celine was a loyal, dedicated and meticulous person who valued her book keeping clients. She often went above and beyond to ensure their books were done right and deadlines were met. She looked forward to getting out of her home office to meet with her clients regularly and catch up. And they loved her for it.
Celine made a great many friends who appreciated her beautiful smile and witty sense of humor. Over the past three weeks many came to the Lakeridge Oshawa Hospital to spend a few minutes with her, and that certainly made it easier to deal with this relentless illness.
The doctors, nurses and support staff at Lakeridge Port Perry and Oshawa Hospitals were exemplary. They did everything they could to try and save her, and when all was lost, keep her comfortable. For those of us who watched them work, we truly appreciated their compassion and selflessness. They truly are the best.
Over the past few months, Celine was suffering as the cancer spread throughout her abdomen, but she never complained and battled back with steadfast determination. She underwent two surgeries, had a round of chemo and tolerated countless needles and IVs. But the illness was moving too fast and wasn’t responding to treatment. Time was not on her side. What was estimated to be weeks or months quickly and sadly turned into days and hours.
She will be missed by her family and friends, and especially me and her two furry babies, Sookie and Koda. The Betty Boop house will never be the same. She always welcomed everyone with a warm smile and a hug. For many of us, she will never be forgotten.
On a positive note, her eyes were donated to the eye bank, so she will also be leaving behind a living legacy.
A celebration of life will be held in Oshawa on what would have been our 28th wedding anniversary, Saturday August 17th. Details will be available shortly.
A big thank you to everyone for your ongoing support and words of kindness. Celine would be overwhelmed with the outpouring of love, as her husband, I know I am.
