Ron Scotchmer of Mitchell passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Victoria Hospital, London on Saturday, June 15, 2024, in his 82nd year.
Beloved husband of Rose Scotchmer. Dear father of Becky Belfour (Louis), Jennifer Skinner (Bruce), Meghan Dorssers (Terry) and Michelle Menheere (Pete). Loving grandfather of Devon (Jocelyn), Brook-Lynn; Brianne (Connor), Trevor, Dan, Sarah; Adriana; Matthew. Cherished great grandfather of Grady, Corbyn and Abby. Dear brother of Raymond Scotchmer (Peggy). Dear brother-in-law of Doug Telford (friend Ruth), Delores Fisher (Frank), Sandra Fields (Bryan), Tom Telford (Sherrie), Mary Lynne Telford, Sandra Laliberte and Remi Verhoeven. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents Jack and Margaret Scotchmer, sister Lynnda Collins, father-in-law and mother-in-law Fred and Gladys Telford, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law George Telford, Stan Telford, Roy Telford (Joanne), Ramona Verhoeven.
For over 30 years, Ronald served as an independent fuel agent, a career that exemplified his hardworking spirit and dedication. He later operated M&M Tilling and Landscaping, where he continued to work and contribute to the community for many more years.
Ronald was a remarkable man known for his many talents and passions. He was an avid antique plowman, winning numerous awards in the craft he shared with his father. His dedication to his community was evident through his 55 years as an active member of the Mitchell Lions Club. Ronald also played a vital role in the Mitchell Pioneer Hobby Association, where he was in charge of the beloved bean pot, as well as working side by side with his brother at the Blyth Steam Show bean pot. Ronald had a unique gift for bringing a smile to all those he met, whether through a kind handshake, a piece of candy, or a little story. His “happy place” was at the farm, where he found peace and joy in the simple pleasures of rural life. Above all, he cherished his spending time with his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life, always bringing a smile to his face with their visits and affection. Ronald’s memory will be forever cherished by his family, friends, and all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and community spirit. ☺
A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held at the Lockhart Reception Centre, 116 Montreal St., Mitchell on Tuesday, June 18 from 5-8 p.m. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated and may be made at LockhartFuneralHome.com.
