Meirong was born on May 11, 1949, to Ernü Tian and Guangbao Yao, a hardworking couple who together raised four beautiful daughters and one son, and helped take care of 14 grandchildren, while showering them with love. Meirong grew up in a small village named Dai County, near the famous Yanmen Pass, one of the three fortified gatehouses along the Great Wall of China.
Meirong was married to Baokun Liu (January 27, 1938 – September 17, 2019) in 1974 and they had two children together: daughter Xiaoning and son Xiaojin. From these came their set of five grandchildren: Jerry, Ethan, Ella, Evelynn and Yuqing, who lovingly remember her as their “Laolao” and “Nainai”, the silver-haired lady who knew how to make delicious dumplings and peanut butter pancakes, who loved to grow vegetables and pumpkins, and who sewed soft toys and knit slippers for them. Meirong also enjoyed Peking Opera and reading novels, and playing Chinese card games in her later years.
Meirong was predeceased by her loving brother Yuzhu and sister Meilian. Meirong’s dear husband passed away on September 17, 2019, predeceased by his younger brothers Baohua and Baotai, and his younger sisters Yajuan, Yahuan and Yana. Meirong will also be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews, especially Runze Cui, Runpeng Cui, Runping Cui and Runniao Cui, who saw her as their own mother.
Meirong will be remembered for her kindness and thoughtfulness in the way that she always put her loved ones before herself; for her wisdom and commitment with which she took care of her family; and for her creativity and talents. More importantly, she is a great inspiration with her courage in the face of adversity and her perseverance against hardships throughout her life. Her dear husband Baokun Liu will be remembered for his sense of humor, cheerfulness and optimism, accountability and determination.
Meirong’s Funeral and burial will be held on June 7, 2024 at 9:00AM at the Columbia-Bowell Chapel in New Westminster, BC, Canada.
