Obituary
KEALEY, Maureen E. – If you’re about to throw away an old sewing pattern or a skein of wool, stop – consider Maureen Eulalia Kealey. Maureen was a talent in knitting and sewing without parallel. Many members of her family, friends and acquaintances proudly wear garments she designed and created. In fact, there are skiers, sports-goers, brides, bridesmaids and prom-goers in and from Niagara Falls over several decades who boast owning a Maureen Kealey creation. Maureen passed to eternal life on Friday February 10, 2023 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Even while enduring palliative care at her home in Niagara Falls, Ontario, she found time to knit, sew and prepare food for those who visited her at her home. Born in 1934, she lived with her mother and siblings in Vancouver during World War II and returned to Ottawa after the war, where she served in Canada’s Air Force, followed by a career at Bell Canada. She and her husband John moved to Niagara Falls with their children in the mid 1960’s. In Niagara Falls, Maureen was a dedicated mother, always available to drive her six active children to sporting, social, family, church and school events. She treasured her children, but especially loved her role as Granny. Her hands were rarely still, either knitting or sewing. She also shared with friends from church, and anywhere else, her love of family and regaled them with photos and stories of the many places she traveled globally and the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Maureen is reunited with her husband whom she adored (and served as her favourite religious and political debate partner) John Richard Kealey, her beloved son David Kealey, and two siblings Heather Beaulne and Don Black. Her spirit is carried on by her remaining five children; Paul (Teresa), Marc (Daniela), Janet Wicks (Rick), Chris (Valentina), Sean (Brenda), her nine grandchildren; Phillip, Alexandra, Elizabeth, Joseph, Ben, Ainara, Fiona, C.J. Wicks, Victoria Wicks, her great-grandchild; Ian Wicks, siblings Gary Black, Michael Black, as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and family – too numerous to list but never forgotten. Her life was a living example of her favorite Saint, Theresa ‘Learn to suffer for Jesus Christ without letting others perceive it.’ Friends are invited to join the family at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, visiting Monday February 20, 2023 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 1 pm at St. Patrick’s Church, with the Rite of Committal to follow at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens. In memory of Maureen, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Women’s Place of South Niagara or Bethlehem Place, and would be appreciated.
