Mervin’s Obituary
Mervin Andrew Veinot
June 27th, 1968- May 24th, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mervin Veinot, 55, of Dartmouth, N.S. after a mere six weeks following his cancer diagnosis. Mervin was born at Soldier’s Memorial Hospital in Middleton and raised in New Albany, Nova Scotia. He was the son of the late Vernon and Ruth (Robar) Veinot.
Anyone that knew Mervin, knew him for his quick wit, generosity, and good nature. He had a passion for antiquing, especially if it involved adding a Beswick to his extensive collection. He also enjoyed playing cards and loved horses. He was the previous president of the Canadian National Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHCC) and even showed horses of his own. He had various jobs throughout his life but the majority of his career was spent as a plumbing sales consultant, most recently for the Bird Stairs company in Dartmouth.
Mervin is survived by brothers Michael (Kathy) and Peter Veinot; sister Mary (Kevin) Frank; nieces and nephews, Kyla and Matthew Veinot, Drew and Delaney Frank; great-niece Franki Veinot; extended family Pat and John Harrison and their three children, Joel, Alana, Garrett, Trina Gesner (Simon) Roberts and their two daughters, Ally and Kalie, and Mary Elizabeth (Bess) Boudreau. He is also survived by various aunts, uncles, cousins, beloved friends and coworkers, all of whom were invaluable to him. It is safe to say the connections Mervin had spread far and wide and the amount of lives he touched is immeasurable- to name them all would be an impossible feat.
He was predeceased by his parents Vernon and Ruth Veinot, and brother Stanley Veinot in infancy.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, June 1st at the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, Middleton (toll free 1-855-825-3448). A reception for family and friends will follow the service. All are welcome.
Interment will be at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery in New Albany, Nova Scotia.
Flowers are accepted. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, any horse rescue shelter, or charity of choice.
