Daniel Bennett Obituary
It is with great sadness that Daniel Francis Bennett passed away suddenly on Wednesday May 15th, 2024. He was surrounded by his family. Daniel was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on July 10th, 1948, he was the son of the late Ross Wilfred Bennett (Regimental Sergeant Major) and Audrey (Boyce) Bennett.
In Daniel’s early years he attended various schools abroad due to his father’s career in the Canadian Armed Forces, he later graduated High School in Nova Scotia. Upon graduation Daniel joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) where he served from 1969-1973 in various communities in Alberta. Daniel moved on from the RCMP to the Lethbridge Police Service where he served until 2001. During his career with the LPS, Daniel worked as a major crime’s investigator, he was also in charge of the SWAT team where he instructed firearm and tactical training. Daniel was a world class shooter and firearms instructor, he represented the city of Lethbridge in various national and international competitions, winning six gold medals, three silver and two bronze in the Northwest Police and Firefighter Olympics. Daniel retired from the LPS at the rank of Detective Sergeant and after his retirement he worked as a licensed private investigator, security consultant, and was co-owner of a local security company. Dan was very active in his community, he devoted his time and attention to several community programs such as the St. Marthas parent teacher association, Chinook Country Shooters Club, Lethbridge Athletic Association and was a leading participant of the Hockey Canada Speak out program.
Daniel is survived by his wonderful wife of 43 years Bernadette Bennett and their children, son Travis, son and daughter in-law Chase and Kelsey, daughter and son-law Breanne and Tyler and his grandchildren Wynne and Rowen and Greyson. He will be forever missed.
