Obituary for
Bernard «Barney» Robar
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear brother-in-law, uncle and great-uncle, Bernard “Barney” Robar of Texada Island, BC, on April 23 at the age of 90 years.
Barney will be lovingly remembered by his sisters-in-law, Ann Smith, Rosalie Sprague and Midge Smolyk; five nieces and nephews, Dean Sprague, Tammy (David) Moss, Shawn Smith, Kirstie Smolyk (Nelson Lanca) and Lindy Smolyk (Mike Crowe); great-nieces and nephews, Mandi (James Gregory) Wise, Mitchell Wise and Adena (Ryley) Laurent; and great-great nieces and nephews, Lucy, Logan, Madeline, Max, Brady and Milla. He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Helen Procyk in 2012.
Barney spent most of his life living and working in Fort Saskatchewan and had been a loyal member of the Boilermakers Union for 54 years. He also enjoyed driving for Fort Taxi for many years after his retirement. After the passing of his dear wife Helen, Barney moved to Texada Island, where he loved spending time on his boat, fishing and enjoying the ocean.
In addition to Helen, one of Barney’s greatest loves was his dog and travel companion, Tigger. He adored Tigger who accompanied him almost everywhere he went.
Barney was a special and supportive friend to many at the Texada RV Park, and we know he will be greatly missed.
A private family service was held with interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the Edmonton Humane Society, 13620 – 163 Street, Edmonton, AB T5V 0B2.
