It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother Joan Francis (nee Tobin) Lucas on May 14th, 2024 at the age of 85 years. She was a mother of 10, grandmother of 16 and great grandmother of 17.
Mom had a heart that matched no other, a guardian angel, who looked over everyone that had the privilege of knowing her. She was a mother not only to us but to many others. Her time spent with family and friends is a true testament of her love and kindness to everyone around her. Mom had the ability to make anyone smile, her twinkle in her eyes shone through, whether it be a loving or a mischievous one. She loved to laugh and joke around with everyone; her joy was infectious.
As a young woman, she volunteered with local fundraising, making concessions for sale, with proceeds going to the children’s summer ball leagues. She spent many years as a Legionnaire with the Royal Canadian Legion in St. George’s. Volunteering her time for decades. She had the voice of an angel (as dad would say), singing for her supper, literally, as that was payment for her talents. She loved camping, snowmobiling, playing cards and the occasional good party. Her true love was darts though, which she played for many years in numerous leagues around the area.
She was predeceased by her husband Gerald, and her son Paul.
Following her wishes cremation has taken place. A visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 22nd from 7:00-9:00 PM at St. Joseph’s Parish chapel, St. George’s. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 23rd at 10:00 AM at. St. Joseph’s Parish Church, St. George’s. Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Shallop Cove. Following the interment friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of life at the Royal Canadian Legion, St. George’s.
