Born in Nakina, ON to Jack and Senja (nee Siren) and moved to
Hornepayne ON at age three. Predeceased by brother Jim (1985).
Survived by sister-in-law Ruby Moylan Olivier. Married Margaret
Klachan in 1961. Children John (Carine), Peter (Diane), David
(Cynthia), and Jennifer.
Grandpa to Stephen (Alex), Amelia (Abe), Natalie (Steve), Meghan
(Tom), Melani (Dean), Colin, Jack (Nicole), Kiera, Alyson, and Senja
Rebecca.
Great-grandpa to Diego, Carlos, Dooms, Ellie, Isla, Finn, Maverick, and
Boden (born May 14, 2024 – the day of John’s passing).
John graduated from the University of Toronto in electrical engineering
(1960). He went on to receive a two-year scholarship to work and study
in England. John and Marg later travelled through Europe for an
additional two months in his 1937 Riley which he completely refurbished
both engine and interior.
John began his career with Fleck Manufacturing and he and Marg
settled in Tillsonburg in 1964. John was instrumental in Fleck’s
expansion from the old Beaver Foundry to the present site (now ECI).
He retired from Fleck as VP of Manufacturing, Appliances and
Electronics in 1995.
Although Hornepayne was his heart, he loved the Town of Tillsonburg
and passionately served in many capacities, including being elected to
Town Council and as a member of several committees impacting
economic development and recreational facilities, particularly the
Community Centre and Arenas. He dedicated ten years to the
Tillsonburg Hospital as Chairman of the Hospital Board and Hospital
Foundation. His personal interests included Tillsonburg Minor Hockey,
Old Timers Hockey, fishing up north, sailing, golfing, and fixing things.
He travelled extensively for business and loved touring the world with
Marg. He enjoyed many golf trips with buddies Irv Horton, Bill Patterson,
and Ted Burt. During his final years, his friend, Jim Jeffrey, regularly
took him to play golf and for coffee before John moved to long term
care.
The caring, heroic staff at Maple Manor became extended family; they
cannot be thanked enough for their dedication to John and his family.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St.
Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation to support Dementia Research by Dr.
Michael Borrie or to the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital
Foundation and may be made directly online or by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) who have been entrusted by the Moylan family.
The Family is currently planning a reception to honour John’s memory
and those details will be announced at a later date.
