It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our oldest sister Mary Walsh Chafe. Mary was just shy of her 86th birthday and passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on May 14, 2024 with her sisters Judy and Joyce at her bedside, at the age of 85.
She was predeceased by our dad and mom, Patrick and Gertrude (Ferrie) Walsh; our brothers Peter (Elizabeth) Walsh, Frank Walsh and Basil (Carolyn) Walsh; her husband Angus Chafe; daughter Marcheta (David) Holden and son John (Juliet) Chafe as well as her brother-in-law John Chafe and his wife Lou; mother-in-law Margaret Chafe and nephew Adam Slaney.
Leaving to mourn her daughter Wanda Chafe; her grandchildren Rebecca «Becky» (Lester) Holden, Alyssa Chafe and Derick (Sara); great grandchildren Isaac and Madison; sisters Judy (Clayton) Pike who has been devotedly by her side for the last 8 years, Joyce (Tony) Strang, Malvena (Barry) Slaney, Blanche (Brian Slaney) Walsh; brothers, Kevin (Barry) and Patrick (Pats) Walsh. Mary was also surrounded and loved by a large number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Thank you to the staff at U.S. Memorial hospital for their kindness and care in the last 2.5 years.
A special thank you to the staff at the BPHCC emergency dept. for their compassion and thoughtfulness in Mary’s last few days.
We will forever miss you. R.I.P. sister.
In honoring Mary’s wishes, cremation will take place.
A graveside service at St. Elizabeth’s R.C. Cemetery will take place at a future date.
