Obituary
NICKERSON, Rachel Elizabeth – 81 of Woods Harbour, passed away on May 13, 2024 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in East Pubnico, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Florence (d’Entremont) Amirault. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 47 years, George. Rachel was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She is survived by her three children, Jodi (Darren Tweedie), Kevin Nickerson, and Graham Nickerson (Ginette d’Eon), and her three grandchildren, Jorja Tweedie, Luke Nickerson and Joshua Nickerson. She came from a large family and was a sister to Claude Amirault, Robert Amirault, Arnold Amirault, Geraldine Savoury and Michel Amirault. She was pre-deceased by brothers Louie Amirault, Alphonse Amirault, Leonce Amirault, and sister Rosemarie Sheldrick. She was an aunt to many nieces and nephews, many who called her Aunt Shell. She was most content with the simple things in life. Summers were spent relaxing at the cottage on Beaverdam Lake where she enjoyed watching the hummingbirds at the feeder. She could often be found knee-deep in the blueberry patch, picking for hours. She and George were avid campers who spent many days with their friends at Keji, playing cards, sitting around the campfire and telling yarns. She loved being a homemaker and was an excellent cook and baker. She made the BEST apple pies, everyone would definitely agree! Rachel enjoyed taking part in many activities over her lifetime and she had a bit of a competitive streak! She amassed a few bowling trophies and won a few «trivia nights» at the community hall. She was a big baseball fan, always cheering on her favourite team, the Toronto Blue Jays. She also gave back to her community, volunteering for many years on the Woods Harbour Ambulance, as treasurer for WH Minor Baseball and as a member of the WH Home and School Committee. She was always willing to help others. Being a grandmother brought her the most joy as she loved to spend time with her three beautiful grandchildren, taking them camping, attending their sporting events and performances, and spending time at the cottage together. These are memories that will forever be cherished. She really enjoyed being with people and socializing, always happy to have company to chat with, to meet new friends and to reconnect with those she had known for many years. Those connections were so evident in her last few weeks, as many friends and family stopped by to spend time with her. It was easy to tell that she meant a lot to so many. There will be a visitation held, Wednesday, May 15 from 6-8 pm at the H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, where the funeral service will follow on Thursday, May 16, at 2 pm, with William “Bill” Malone officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Woods Harbour. It has been requested there be family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund.
