Mel passed away on May 7, 2024 at the age of 85. Loving father to David Richardson and Beth (Curtis) Rushing. Proud Gramps to Sam, Jackson Melvin and Sadie. Husband of the late Patricia (2021).
Mel was born in Timmins, Ontario on November 2, 1938 to parents George and Bernice. He is survived by siblings Evelyn and George. He will be missed by his nephews Graham and Christopher.
Mel had a passion for exploration. After a long, successful career as a stationary engineer, he decided to return to university to continue his love of learning at the age of 65. To keep his mind busy, he enrolled at Canterbury ElderCollege to continue his lifelong love of education.
He found solace and peace hiking and climbing mountains in Alberta. He cherished the summers camping at Killarney Provincial Park into his late 70’s.
After the passing of Pat in 2021, Mel expressed his creativity through drawing and painting. He enjoyed watching Formula1 and listened to a broad range of music and instilled that love of music to his children. But above all, the time spent with family was valued the most.

Memorial visitation on Tuesday May, 14, 2024 from 11-1 p.m. at Families First 1065 Lauzon Rd.
